Question about 1998 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

While driving the car feels as if it jerks or skips. Almost like throwing the brakes on quickly. We had just purchased it, and had the problem early. After a week or so it stopped doing it and kind of ruled it as bad gas or water in the gas. It had just done it again after driving about 40 miles going about 65 MPH. Want to feel it is safe to drive it home again tonight.

Don't know why you would drive 65
I could be a bad ignition coil missing or several other issues.
Do you have a MIL Lamp on? If so get the code.

Hi I'm female and have a toyota tazz 1999 model. The car started jerking as I drive, feels sluggish as well. Checked fuel filter but seems clean, no smoke, oil and water is fine(can it still be a gasket?)...

jerking can be from many things
1: brakes locked up. or bad.
2: engine jerks
3: transmission jerks.

sluggish, same,
find a shop any auto repair shop to tell you which of the 3 it is.
then post for help.

keep in mind, not one person here can drive your car. and see that.

For some reason my 98 honda accord 2.3 engine. Its starting to jerk slightly when I drive over 45 miles an hour nd I break to a complete stop thats when I feel the jerk. Sometimes the jerk can be harder...

Front brake rotors need to be turned and new pads. Adjust rear brakes. the front brakes are doing all of the stopping. (overheating the rotors, premature pad wear).

Grand marquis jerks in all gears 85.000 miles

It could be the converter is going bad or a time you are driving it and it is jerking put your foot on the brake pedal, dont put the brakes on like you are trying to stop just push lightly on the pedal. This unlockes the converter.if it stops jerking you have a bad converter or a sensor related to it.

1995 Chevy C1500 ..why does the truck has pulsation while slowing (not in the peddal).

C1500 is two wheel drive. If the vehicle feels like it is jerking when braking then you have warped rotors. You will feel this in the truck not in the pedal. If you did not have power brakes then you would feel the pedal go up and down. Now if your not braking or resting your foot on the pedal, You may still have brake issues. A frozen caliper [piston stuck] with a warped rotor may feel like this also, Without proper diagnostics it is a little difficult to determine. Try Midas or any other Brake shop, they have free inspections.

Ford festiva 1991, it jerks a lot while driving. specially wen it drive after 4-6hr

most likely its your distributor cap. if its old it means its worn out and water will get into the cap and cross wires, which makes one of the spark plugs skip. replace your distributor cap and rotor.

My car feels like it doesnt want to move then it jerks then goes on its way. it also feels like it has a hard time pullin small hills

Could have a seized brake caliper perhaps? Easy fix for the DIYer. however if it is a bad caliper you should fix it quick before it warps your rotor, also a clogged brake hose is usually the culprit for seizing the caliper so if it is seized you should change that too.

When I take off from a dead stop the vehicle jerks 3 times consistantly. I've tried manually shifting, accelerating slowly, accelerating quickly and it still jerks 3 times nearly every time

i think this is impossible to tell you without being able to drive the car.things are more complicated then we would like. the fact that taking off slowly also causes this jerking seems to eliminate an enginge missfire which would be the first thing that would probably cause jerking. does it feel like the rear prakes are sticking on thi can be a problem with the parking brake cables rusted inside ther casing.four wheel drive problems could be a u jouint or drive shaft issue. have a mechanic at least drive it to get som feel for where the problem is.

I sprayed water under hood now car jerks

The 4.6 lit motors have individual coil packs. usually, they are not very suceptable to water but... If the check engen light comes on (amber light on the dash) It's probly just skipping. Get some one to put the car in drive and hold the brake. Under load the skip will be worse. Unplug each coil one by one. As they are unpluged, the motor will shake worse. when you unplug one and the skip dosn't get worse, you have found the bad cylender. Odds are it's a coil pack but replace the plug too.
