After trying to start in near dark conditions mainly walked by when shutting lights off-gave it one more shot and girlfriend noticed spark from rear of engine-the starter had wore through the casing and was grounding itself out-a little bit of liquid metal on re-assembly around casing with JB weld on top seemed to solve that little problem-still will not start- 12.66 v a the coil-need to know which and where the fuel relays are and can they be tested

I have a 88 chevrolet suburban it sputters when i accelerate

It could be an ignition problem, or low fuel pressure.
If the spark plugs and ignition system are in good condition, I would check fuel pressure and the filter.
If the throttle position sensor is failing, the check engine light should be on.

Replaced ignition module, spark plug wires, distributor cap, fuel filter, and thermostat. car starts then after a while you turn it off and try to restart it, but all it does is crank, will not turn over....

COULD BE FUEL PUMP.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 40 - 47 PSI. WITH NEW FUEL FILTER. IF FUEL PRESSURE OKAY.YOUR SPARK PLUGS COULD BE FOULING OUT BY LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS BY ADDING A CAN OF SEAFOAM TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS.WHEN YOU HOOK UP FUEL PRESSURE TESTER WITH IGNITION SWITCH ON ENGINE OFF FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD READ 40 PSI. TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH IF FUEL PRESSURE DROPS FAST YOUR FUEL PUMP CHECK VALVE BAD.IF FUEL PRESSURE DROPS SLOWLY IN TEN MINUTES TIME FUEL INJECTORS IS LEAKING A NEED CLEANING.INJECTORS SPRAYING TIP CLOGGED WITH CARBON BUILD UP CAUSING THEM TO LEAK DOWN WHEN ENGINE OFF.

Is there a kill switch in a 1993 oldsmobile 88?

G.M.vehicles do not have kill switches or fuel shut off switches. If you have a no start then you need to find out if you have fuel pressure or if your not getting spark at the spark plugs.Hope this helps.Good luck.

The car doesn't start. It has gas and spark. It did die. one time while on the road driving and would not restart.. The battery is good. we replaced cam shaft sensor. It will not start for days. Then...

You need to see if the fuel pump comes on at all
If it does, you need to check for pressure by the
fitting on the engine
If you get professional help they need to look at the
fuel pump (in the gas tank) with an oscilloscope
to see the current pattern
If it is as old as you car 13 years or so you could
replace it as it will fail soon anyway

To say it has gas and spark means you performed
some type of test to confirm that.

When you say the battery is good or starter, again
some kind of testing has to be done
This is not diagnoses by assumption

88 chevy truck 5.7 engine not firing

WHAT I WOULD DO IS TEST THE FUEL PRESSURE SOME TIMES THE PUMP WILL PUMP ENOUGH FUEL TO GET TO THE TBI BUT NOT ENOUGH TO FIRE THE TRUCK. IF FUEL PRESSURE IS GOOD REMOVE THE DISTBURTOR CAP AND INSPECT THE CAP AND ROTOR, CHECK FOR CORROTION N EITHER ONE SOME TIMES IS BUILDS UP AND STOPS THE SPARK. GIVE THAT A TRY GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS.

My 1993 Olds 88 wont start cranks but wont kick over. Fuel prob

3.8 are known for ignition trouble but first use the fuel release valve located on top of engine under a screw cap to see if your getting fuel. It takes 4 things to make engine run fuel spark air and compression. But most likely the Ign control module or crank sensor. So try this
1) check the fuel pressure
2) check for spark
3) compression test
