Throttle body air intake mix is cracked i hope i said this right
right now my mind is waken up

this will be connected to the air filter and assembly take the whole assembly out and try and start vehicle
if vehicle runs you have a crack in throttle body air intake housing this will need to be replaced

cloged fuel filters there is usually 3 one in the engine compartment one on chassis and one in the gas tank called the sending unit this has a filter on it
the gas tank filter only needs to be replaced every 100 thousand miles

timing might be off
sparks not connected all the way or improperly wired
computer took a surge and now wont run replacement of computer is needed
vacume leak at master cylinder
capasitor ignition coil bad <<< spell check
alternators these days are mostly being remanufactured the only true brand new alternators are the ones that come from dealer
batterys are reman. too sometimes they have a dead cell in them
at one point in my life i had to go back 4 different times with alternator and battery for the same problem
this is a win loose win kind of senerio

from the sound of the vehicle only runs off a jump the alternator and or battery is bad

Fuel pump wont start when ignition is on unless you hold fuel relay switch


Normally the fuel pump relay should only turn on the fuel pump for a few seconds if the engine won't start. It is a safety to prevent fuel pumps from running after the engine dies in an accident. The safety detects the engine running by alternator output on most cars, but oil pressure switch on some. But sounds like the relay is bad or loose?

The most common cause of a non-starting car is the battery. It is either weak, (low voltage) dead, (zero voltage) or has bad connections. (corroded or loose) I will assume you have a fully charged battery with good connections. (both to battery and starter relay)
If you remove the starter switch lead (small wire) from the starter relay and apply +12v from the battery to its respective prong or lead on the relay, and your starter cranks, your starter switch is faulty. (not to be confused with your key switch). If you jump the two large wires together on the relay and it cranks, then the relay is faulty. If you jump the two large wires together and nothing happens, then starter is faulty, or wires to starter are loose or broken. Picture of starter switch prong on the relay is pictured. NOTE: sparks are to be expected, so don't be too scared.

fuel system is faulty. Check for a clogged fuel filter, or if your fuel pump don't run at all, replace the "fuel pump relay". Sometimes your fuel pump will run, but be too weak to hold pressure, which will let your car idle somewhat, but be too weak to run the engine at speed or under load.

If your car is getting fuel, then the igniton system is faulty. Things to check or replace in the order that I would check them are here: They are the coil, igniton module, cam and crankshaft sensors, map sensor. Your car may be out of time due to a broken timing belt/chain, or it may have been loose and jumped a few teeth on their cogs. Check engine timing and condition of belt. These are not all of the igniton components, but the most common items that go bad. The rest of the components and sensors shouldn't cause your car not to start, but affect driveabiliy.

My 1993 E-350 club wagon wont start Code: 542 =


Replace the TCM to fix the converter clutch problem.. The line 12 volt is direct power from the battery and 7 volts out the I am suspicious off as I think that the coil for the relay is partially shorting out to give the 7 volts. As for the other wire 12 volts in would be ok but if there is nothing out unless it is a relay that has not closed because the relay coil has not activated correctly.. Check the readings against a new relay.

Short answer, your batter is bad. or is disCHARGED:
Long.:

wont crank?
no engine, cranks ,unless the starting system works.
unless pushed fast, like my car or i park on a hill and coast jump my car.(M/T tranny rule)

NO crank, is the true failure here:
slow Cranks are , bad battery , or a discharged battery , due to bad charging system or parked for 3 months or longer.

so ill assume its NO CRANK.
I turn the key TO START and the starter fails to CRANK.
the starter motor is dead. (key clue 1)
so i attach a set of jumper cables to my Caddy, running and this car
now cranks and RUNS (you left that out. above, huh? runs)

turnsover means nothing, because the engine starter turns over
and the engine can turn over and the engine can run,
once running the EFI system SUSTAINS runninng.
so there are 4 states there. (4 phases )

No cranks #1 reason to be slow , are a bad battery
so I charge that battery, and see how if it cranks , now?
it dont crank means a bad battery
it does work( crank) see how long it works.../?
if it dies again, or better, check the cars Alternator for by measuring
accross the battery terminals running , with any volt meter.
13.3 to 15vdc is a good alternator running the engine.
if NOT, the charge system is bad. (system)

On some cars the IMMO can block Cranking or for sure blocks
fueling after 2 seconds. So. watch the IMMO light on the dash.
Immo is the Immoblizer. option.

Car wont crank unless pop-started.


I would have that starter tested. It could be intermittently engaging and disengaging. This can happen to the starter drive. I`m not sure why it cuts out after you jump start it,since the alternator takes over after cranking the engine. Unless the starter drive is sticking. My other thoughts are on a fuel pump problem.Or fuel problem period such as an obstruction of gas getting to the engine. Fuel filter maybe or fuel pump relay!

Well the first thing that you must check is see if the battery is charging ,if the alternator is charging the battery enough,with a multimeter,if there is not enough power in the battery ,the starter will be hard to turn the engine for starting,hope that clear your mind and help you

Can the truck start up with a jump?

If the truck can start with a jump then check the voltage at the battery posts.

After warm up (10 minutes), it should read 13.8-14.6V

Some part store can do a diode check on the alternator for internal defect/short/bad diode/ripple voltage.

Check for spark on the plugs.

With key on (do not turn),listen for the fuel pump rotation noise.

Check the fuel pump relay or security system fuel cut off

1996 lincoln towncar. No a/c compressor engagement unless jumped


the control unit is no good.i had a similar situation with a 98 tracker,and installed a switch to give it a ground for the compressor relay that comes from the a/c computer module.
it works good and goes on and off with the a/c switch.
