The remote start is disabled when the check engine light is on. Find out why the light is on. Fix that problem and the remote start should start working again.

My check engine light was on. Took it to my local auto parts stoe and had it check for free. The diagnostics indicated that there was a bad oil pressure sendor. Had the oil pressure sensor replaced and now the remote starter works again.

The remote start on this vehicle will not work if the check engine light is on.You will have to have the codes checked and repaired in for the system to work. You should also check to see if you are still under the factory warranty. It is 3 years and 36k miles. If you are over this then you are not under warranty.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Do you have a check engine light on? Most factory remote start systems are disabled when there is a check engine condition.

AWD. Remote starter causes lights to turn on and stay on but why doesn't engine start?

but does manual starts work, with key in dash key socket?????????
is this the factory remote start option?
do both FOBs fail>?

if yes, know that the factory version is very strict on cranking rules. (laws to OEM)
so if yes, then you must scan the pcm
if you see any DTC errors, bingo.

this is to prevent injury of those around any car with this junk. 15+ deaths and growing.
both keyless and remote start.

if you have tools, then get car serviced
the modern system will do that
if doors are ajar (real or switches lying)
if transmission shiftier in wrong state, (true or not (switches fail)
or gross engine or transmission errors detected.
or low battery (in car)
or,
(well the fsm on car tells you all this, read it?)

here it is.
just 4 bucks to read it

Remote Vehicle Start Inoperative

Diagnostic Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle ) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of each diagnostic approach.

Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit/System Description

Remote vehicle start (RVS) begins as an RF message received by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) from a keyless entry transmitter. The RVS request is sent by the RCDLR to the body control module (BCM) via serial data. The BCM monitors system conditions such as content theft deterrent (CTD), hood ajar status, and body DTCs to determine if an RVS event will occur. If conditions are determined to be acceptable, the RVS message is sent to the engine control module (ECM). The ECM monitors system conditions such as engine control parameters and vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) to determine if engine starting will be allowed. If conditions are acceptable, the ECM will initiate engine starting. During the engine run time in a RVS attempt, before the operator enters the vehicle, the ECM may discontinue engine operation if system conditions require it or a message is received from the BCM requesting the engine be turned OFF.

Diagnostic Aids

NOTE

Important: If the vehicle has a current vehicle DTC that illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL), the cause of the DTC must be diagnosed before proceeding with the Remote Vehicle Start Inoperative diagnostic.

The RVS system will not operate if any of the following conditions are present:

A current vehicle DTC that illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)

The vehicle is in valet mode.

More than 2 remote starts have been attempted.

The hazard switch is in the ON position.

A current hazard switch DTC is set.

The vehicle hood is ajar.

A current hood ajar DTC is set.

The CTD system detects an alarm trigger.

Excessive engine RPM

Excessive coolant temperature

Accelerator pedal position greater than 0 percent

Vehicle not in park

Vehicle theft deterrent malfunction

A current automatic transmission shift lock control system DRC is set.

A vehicle speed sensor signal is detected by the ECM.
end quote.

This list will grow , after 3 top lawsuits
win cases and recalls, happen.
My prediction.... Carbon dioxide poisoning.
the silent killler.
rule 1, to be added.
cant exit car with it running... Keyless. starts.
and car can not keep running, if ambient CO is too high, a new sensor, added.
many older homes have zero protection for CO detection, nor properly sealed garages..
garage to home.
Innocent deaths, and some are unsolved !

Factory Remote Starter works sometimes

Could be an engine or data problem.. If the check engine light ever came on, the computer is locking out the remote start. This is to prevent the car from running unattended that may have a problem. Have the compute scanned first or any codes, correct the problem and the remote start problem may go away.

yes its often that dealers will advise that if car starter installed there is no gurentee as well the car if its finish with the gurentee the tech line advises the mechanics to remove any after market devices installed to repair the original system but most of the time the starter is not the problem but it eliminates it sometimes the car starter has extra features that cause problems in the startingcircuit for example when the car starter installed the main wire is put it between the starter and ignition so if the wire is cut to far this causes a lost between the ignition switch and the starter or the module can be damaged and the same thing apears and so on

Remote locks and unlock car but it does not start it with remote

Troubleshooting Tips For Your Car Starter
  • If your car is simply not responding when you activate your remote car starter, it is usually due to one of two problems. Either your remote is not working, or your receiver is not functioning properly. Most remotes will have an LED light to indicate that the remote is working. If the LED light is flashing when the remote is engaged, the remote is functional. Check the receiver by ensuring the receiver wire is connected properly.
  • If your car is indicating a response to the remote car starter (i.e. the lights flash or the horn honks briefly) but not starting, you probably have an issue with your hood pin switch or your taillights, or parking lights may be defective. Another possibility is that you have blown fuses in your main power source. If you cannot determine that these are the causes of the malfunction, take your car back to the company or service that performed the installation.
  • If your vehicle is responding to the remote car starter and the engine turns over but will not start, it may be caused by a factory-installed immobilizer system, or OEM. Factory-installed OEMs are activated by a computer chip in your ignition key. In order to test for a problem with you car's OEM, place the key in the ignition and employ the remote car starter. If the car starts, you definitely have a problem with the vehicle's OEM, and you may need to purchase a "transponder" to bypass the OEM.
  • If you lose your remote for your car starter, do not worry. Most remote car starters are equipped with multiple security features to ensure the safety of your vehicle while it is idling. The car simply will not run without the key. And, once you replace the remote and program it into the system, your old remote will no longer function.

2007 cobalt remote starter opens doors but does not start car

Ok help me understand this. When you say "remote starter" are you refering to the Keyless Entry remote. Assuming your car is equipped with remote start from the factory, if you check engine light is on the remote start is disabled. Is your check engine light on? Do you have multiple Keyless Entry remotes? See if the other one works if you do? It is possible that perticular button on that remote is not working while others are working. You will need to replace it at a dealership.

2006 Chevy Equinox

Hiya...the factory-installed keyless remote control are installed in most Equinoxes IF SO equipped with this option that year.
However, it's difficult to get "true factory-installed" keyless feature in your Equinox ....but new 2008-2009 Equinoxes built this year now comes with standard keyless remote and yes, new option is remote STARTER feature (that option is identified by a black wire found inside the rear-right quarter window with thin metal line surrounding that interior window to receive signal from remote starter fob)

At least you can find after-market keyless remote control at your local retail store.
