Check for a worn universal joint on the drive shaft going to the rear wheels.

Check your transmission fluid level. (Low level can cause vibration on acceleration.)

Check to see if your transmission filter needs changing.

Does it only vibrate under heavy acceleration?

First check your transmission fluid level before doing any test. Make certain this is not a speed vibration from the wheels by shifting the lever into 2 instead of D and reaching the speed you are having vibration at (as long as it is safe and you are not over reving the engine). While at that speed shift into D and let the transmission go into it's normal gear ranges and take note if the vibration occurs. I've seen (felt) this type of vibration many times on vehicles where the fluid is low. Adding fluid to the proper level solved this issue on some but on others there was existing transmission wear that this would not help. This doesn't mean the entire transmission is bad as the valve body inside the transmission fluid pan can sometimes cause this. Swapping out the valve body can be pricey but not as pricey as a new transmission and sometimes cheaper then having a used transmission installed.

Yes that will it will also cause the rear shaft seal to leak. This is common on Fords. You should do it or you will leak transmission fluid

I believe that I have either a bad transmission mount or mounts, and possible a bad motor mount or mounts because the car vibrates in drive while running and also vibrates in neutral while running but not...


Get a friend to open the hood and look at the engine go up or down in the engine compartment when the brakes are firmly applied and switching between reverse and drive. Look for the motor mounts for behavior where tears exist in the rubber.

The car vibrates when in drive while at a stop. What would cause this ?


Vibration at idle brings to mind a few suspects:

transmission mount(s) broken/missing
transmission internally worn
motor mount(s) broken/missing

(1) transmission internally worn or transmission mount broken/missing - test this by shifting into neutral at the next stop light. If the vibration disappears when you disengage the transmission, then the transmission is the source of the vibration. You'll have to inspect the transmission mounts - if they're ok, then the transmission is internally worn and can no longer smoothly "slip" while idling in drive.
(2) motor mount broken/missing - also test this by shifting into neutral at the next stop light. If the vibration persists, then the transmission is exonerated, and the vibration is coming from (under) the engine. The rubber part of motor mounts commonly crack/break and or pop out and are lost.

I think my automatic transmission modulator valve is going out because it jerks and vibrates when i accelerate anything above 50 MPH.


90 % of the time jerking or vibration is usually caused by the engine and not the transmission. The most common cause is cylinder misfiries caused by the ignition system that cause the vehicle to ****, stumble, or shudder which make it appear and feel as though the transmission is the cause. Most transmission problems will cause harsh shifts, slippage, and/or delayed engagement but rarely jerks or vibrations. I'd start by looking at the spark plugs, plug wires, and coil packs to make sure they are all ok first before going any further. The reason most of these problems are more noticable over 50 mph is that the torque converter clutch is engaged at this point and it provides a solid connection between the engine and drivetrain which makes engine misfires more noticable. 2001 silverado 4x4 loud vibration at 50mph and speedo jumps around


Check your u joints and the transmission mounts. A worn U joints and worn Transmission mount can cause the vibration and can make your speedometer jumps around, cause the VVS is located at the rear of the transmission by the yoke. Good luck and check the VVS wire harness to make sure it's still tight and not damaged.

I had a transmission service don now have a vibration between 35 and 45 mph it seems to be shifting funny but when i give it gas to speed up it stops transmission has 71000 original mi


take it back make them do it right, ! probably got some loose bolts on your torque converter or 1 fell out causing the vibration! I have yet to find anyone out there who can rebuild a transmission and do the job right the first time! even if they left out just 1 lockwasher it will cause a vibration eventually screw something else up!

Vibration through the car Transmission-motor Linkage?


Check to make sure both headlights are tight,,,when it rattles at idle go feel the headlight and hold it and see if the noise and vibration goes away,sometimes the headlight has too much clearance and causes a massive vibration,,if thats not it try...loosening all the motor mounts and rock the car back and forth and them retighten them,it reseetles the mounts and sometimes fixes the issue,,also check the lower engine and trans mounts for wear.

My car's dash rumbles very hard when idling and in reverse. My friend said something in the (AUTO) transmission is causing the hard idling. Any ideas?


Good afternoon. Sounds like you need to check the engine/transmission mounts. Bad mounts will cause a vibration you are describing and will transmit normal engine vibration into the frame of vehicle causing vibration to occur. Most mounts are made of rubber but some are filled with oil and are called hydro-mounts. Check all mounts for cracked rubber at mount where it attatches to engine,transmission and frame.
