How do I remove the front caliper on a Ford Thunderbird 1997? To remove the old front pads

The rubber plugs are to stop dirt blocking the Allen key head! Remove the rubber plugs and undo the 7mm Allen key screws, then calliper can be removed to access the pads! Refit in reverse!

How do i remove the caliper on a ford thunderbird 1997. I have done brake jobs before. Everyone knows the two bolts to remove to dislodge the old pads. Where these bolts usually are, I found two rubbe

Yes, pop out the rubber plugs ( dirt keeper outer's) and the caliper bolts are inside. They are Allen head bolts but I have seen a few with torx heads. Make sure to put the plugs back in when your done. I also like to put a dab of grease in there before I replace the plugs. (Stops rust). c5c1492a-1a81-42b9-b2e2-6174565e041a.jpg

Please first see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5973094-starter_replace, then see specific instructions below for your Mercury. Let me know if you have questions.
Your starter is in the back of the engine.
from autozone.com
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove air intake resonators. [loosen clamp and remove bolts, lift out resonator]
  3. Remove starter motor upper mounting bolts.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the nuts on the starter terminals and remove the cables from the terminals.
  6. Remove the two starter lower retaining bolts and remove the starter.

I was trying to remover rear right brake wheel cylinder and now one of the 2 bolt heads is stripped any tips on how to remove the stripped bolt

You can do whatever to that bolt to remove it because the new cylinder will have fresh threads. For instance after removing the other 2 fasteners just pry the WC off. the bolt is not thick and should break easily. You will need a new bolt tho. Those damaged bolt sockets work sometimes too.

How do I replace the front axles?

Jack the car up having the tire off the ground, the higher the better. If you access to the lift it will be very easy to work on. The best jack to use if you don't have access to the lift is a jack stand which the car can set and rest on or hydraulic floor jack will also work fine.
1 remove front tires (4 lugs)
2 remove bake calipers (2 bolts)
3 remove the main bolt from the main front axle hub (1 big bolt)
4 remove the front disc from the main hub (will come out freely after removing the main bolt)
5 remove/seperate the main hub from strut (1 long bolt)
6 remove the two small bolt on the wishbone axle, there is a small metal cover has two bolts which
cover the main wishbone bolt need to remove in order for the hub to drop freely from the strut. it
make axle slide out from the main hub easily.
once you complete 1-6, the tough part and sometime stubborn is to remove the main hub from the axle. you may have to tap the axle with the hammer removing to seperate the hub from the axle. before you do any tapping to the main axle tip out from the main hub make sure you put the main axle bolt back on but don't screw the bolt all the way back in just but far enough until the tip of the axle is flush with the bolt, that way is safe to tap on it. if you tap or hammer the main axle without the bolt you will damage and flatten the thread of the axle and wont be able to put the bolt back on to the axle. You have to remove the axle from the main hub first before you be able to slide the axle out from the transmission. do not remove or undo any brake line, it will cause more work. don't forget not to set you emergency bake or you will have a tough time removing the caliper. rebuilt axle will run around 50 bucks with core exchange and many shop can put it in for 125 to 150 including used parts and labor. good luck and hope that work for ya.
