to put the distributor rotor to the correct firing side you have first know whether you are in the correct firing order position. For the sure action,follow the advise given below. A) remove the first spark plug.
B) remove the rocker cover where you easily see the tappets.C) start to rotate the crankshaft pulley on clockwise position and follow the tappets where the fourth piston valves come to balance where oncoming to this position means that you have the first piston into the firing position,the and then you have to put the distributor with the rotor facing into the first spark plug position. To be sure whether you are correct on the distributor put the distributor cap and mark it with a white tippex the first piston position. on fitting the distributor bring it into middle hole where the bolt will be tighten the distributor and on trying you will play with the advance timing or vice versa .

I need to know the timing marks for installing the timing chain and in 1992 GMC sonoma st in the firing order on the distributor and the engine block.


I highly recommend you get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle. The Haynes Manual has photo references that show the alignment as well as a diagram of the firing order on the Distributor. Typically the #1 is marked on the the Distributor cap and they are sequential clockwise after that. The Firing order is actually controlled by the order you connect the wires to the Distributor.

FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. What is the firing order for a grand cherokee laredo. I change the distributor for sgrand cherokee laredo jeep. I lined up tdc, had the rotor turned to number 1, but it is still missing.

Installing dastributor into motor matching fire order


Remove number 1 spark plug (front one on the drivers side) move the crank shaft until the piston is to the very top of the cylinder near the head. Now you need to have the rotor pointed to number 1 spark plug on your distributor cap upon installing the distributor into the engine

FIRING ORDERS

To avoid confusion, ALWAYS replace spark plug wires one at a time.

The most important thing to remember about the removal and installation of a distributor, cap or spark plug cable is that all wires MUST be labelled before they are disconnected. Keep in mind that these figures depict a firing order where the distributor cap terminals are relative to EACH OTHER only and they do not necessarily depict the tower positions in relation to the rest of the engine. This is true because any distributor which has been removed and reinstalled may have been installed with the No. 1 spark plug tower at any position (360 degrees) in relation to the rest of the motor, as long as the rotor aligned to the No. 1 tower when the No. 1 cylinder was at TDC of the compression stroke (valves closed, ready for the plug to fire). As long as the remaining wires were connected in the correct firing order sequence (depending on direction of distributor rotation) the engine will run. DO NOT EVER remove more than one wire from the distributor cap at a time unless you tag ALL wires and towers to assure proper installation.
