Yes you do have to lower the engine so that the bolt will slide out threw the bottom of the inner fender frame. it is a pain to do this. take out the bottom motor mount alont with the top mounts on the motor but make sure u put a jack stand under the mount that sits under the motor so the motor does not fall

What is the procedure for changing the thermostat in a 3.5 liter Chrysler Concord LXi. It is located on the driver's side of the engine under the alternator and other interesting things?

I have a 99 300M 3.5, and yes, it is close under there. Drain the system. Get it up on a lift, if you can. If not, get it up high enough to work Safety first. Make sure you work with a helper when any car is n the air. I suggest you just CUT THE LOWER HOSE and get a new GATES. Disconnect the wire for the oil pressure sensor and take it out too. (Chrysler has an Orange color (I think) lock on the connector that has to be pulled out with a needle nose before the connector will release. Aggravating, but necessary). In fact, replace the sender because a leaky oil pressure sensor is typical for the 3.5. Take out the oil filter, because, man, you need all the room you can get. As I recall, I also had to unbolt the power steering pump because of one lousy bolt. Buy a Genuine Chrysler thermostat with the o-ring. You'll thank yourself for doing that when the cheapie fails. Put her back together in reverse WITH the new hose installed on the housing before anything else goes in. NOT an easy replacement, but it can be done,

Change alternator procedure? one bolt hits the frame when trying to take out! how do i get this out?

some times there is a hole lined up close to the bolt in the chassis of the car that allows you to sneak the bolt out. If not, you will most likely have to unbolt the motor mount and lower engine so its on an angle so you can remove this bolt. Make sure you use a decent jack under the engine accompanyed by a peice of wood so you don't do any damage to engines oil pan when lowering or raiseing engine. Some times the mounts can be a little tuff to line up but take your time.
