I have a 1998 F150 with a automatic and it doesn't seem to get into Drive. The shift pointer need to point at "2" for me to go forward. If I point the shifter at "D" it is really in Neutral. But it feels like it's in 2 instead of Drive It has Overdrive and that seems to work. Also, when do I use Overdrive ?

Most likely the linkage between the lever and the gearbox is out of position. To fix it you must go beneath the truck to access the gearbox and this is a dirty work, better left to a shop.
An Overdrive is a device which is used in automobiles to allow the choice of an extra-high overall gear ratio for high-speed cruising, thus saving fuel, at the cost of less torque. Because of that it should be used only on highways, with the truck not fully loaded.

Transmission shifts early (Is this normal?)

the reason it might be shifting so early is because of the gear ratio in the rear end of the truck. it is common in the 2 wheel drive basic model pickup because they were designed to work not travel.

1991 Ford F150 Jumps out of 4W drive sometimes in reverse

My 94 did the same thing. In a automatic, you have to come to a full stop, it usually grinds when in 4L ,And for the shifter, I had to look at mine, 2w is all the way forward to the dash, then 4H is toward you 1 click, and "N" is the next toward you, then 4L , you have to push the lever down and pull backwards. Always come to a full stop when changing gears and wait a few seconds before changing direction.
