Question about Ford Focus

Does the 2001 ford focus have a cap and rotor to replace? or is it just a very expensive coil pack replacing the cap and rotor idea? Alex

Ford focus problem

Not sure how it could kill two cylinders on purpose. In most cases a blown hose is a sign of a blown head gasket.
If the cylinders have normal compression, check for spark on each cylinder.

I have a 2001 Focus that is showing a #3 misfire, changed the spark plugs and wires and it is still running rough? What next?

had the same thing with my crown vic on the #8 cylinder. changed plugs and wires. still missing. wound up replacing the coil pack. you can check resistence of the coil between companion spark plug towers. ford marks each tower with 2 cylinder #'s. resisistence should be around 10-12 ohms

2001 ford e250 service engine light is on. computer shows cylinder #7 misfire code.

A code P0307 Cylinder #7 Misfire may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

Faulty spark plug or wire
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Running out of fuel
Poor compression
Defective computer

If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Plugs, distributor cap, Plug wires, rotor, and it wouldn't hurt to replace the air filter and fuel filter too.

Hello and thank your for choosing I suggest changing the fuel filter and air filter to begin with. If that doesn't fix it, you may have a couple of plugged fuel injectors, or you may need to replace the coil pack and modular or distirbutor cap and rotor (whichever is equipped); either one, it is a good idea to also change the spark plugs and wires. Coil packs can be tested to determine whether they're good or not. Distributor caps and rotors will have obvious damage that will indicate the need for replacement. Modulars may have a melted, or bubbled look to the material on top of them (coil pack(s) ) removed. If the modular is bubbled, replace it, keeping the original coil pack(s) and try that - also, if equipped with a distributor; before replacing cap and rotor, make sure that the coil wire is secure at both end. (it will be the center wire in the distributor cap) and runs to the coil.

Try to start my 2001 ford focus want start everything else works the lights the radio etc

i have replaced coil pack. wires plugs on a 2000 2.0 sohc ford focus..and it still has no fire.... motor just turns over.. 99'000 miles i had the timing belt and all replaced about 10'000 miles ago at ford dealer ship.... what might be my problem now crank sensor??? all fuses i checked they are all good.... it just spins no fire to plugs so it seems...

2001 ford focus problem

The problem is a resistor pack located behind the glove box mounter to the firewall area. There's a thermal fuse, similar to ones used in household hair dryers, that blows. Either replace the fuse (if you can find one at an electronics parts supplier), or go to Ford and buy the resistor pack. Its not terribly expensive, but the fuse, if it can be found, is a little ove a dollar.
