Question about Ford E-250

Open Question

My 97 f250 is having Transmisison shifting problems It shifts hard into any gear when this problem starts. Also when it does this odomoter and speedometer go dead. The OD light on the gear shift blinks. Then no matter what I am stuck in that gear until I stop the truck and let it set for 5 mins with engine off. Then I start it up and go again for a while until it happens again, maybe 10 mins maybe 2 days? I have plenty of fluid.

Your speed sensor in your trans. needs to be checked out sounds like its not working or not getting a good signal until its generating enough power and speed to start until it reaches 30 MPH. Check that out sometimes it could just be some dirt on it. It all makes sense the ABS light is on because its not reading the speed of the tires, and the AOD light is on because It has no idea when to shift into overdrive without knowing how fast its going. SOURCE: won't shift out of low,speedometer doesn't work

see my comments, not 100% sure that it was the out put speed censor or not, but after reconnecting the wires to a new censor and reconnecting the battery and clearing codes it worked. connection was not clipped may have been loose

AS YOUR CAR IS VERY OLD. THE ENGINE PARTS MUST BE VERY OLD. IN THIS SITUATION EVERY CAR DOSENT WORKS PROPER WHEN THE ENGINE BECOMES HOT. YOU JUST NEED TO CHECK AT CHEVY SERVICE CENTER FOR A BETTER SOLUTION. THEY WILL HELP U BETTER AFTER CHECKING YOUR CAR PERSONALLY.

SOURCE: Trans shifts very hard after 5 minutes of stop and go traffic

A reason for hard shifting could be a problem with many things with various degrees of seriousness. It could be your ATF( automatic transmission fluid) is low or broken down and old. This would cause the hardness and the reason for stop and go traffic effecting it. Another possibility is your transmission is just shot, and the timing gears inside are worn and not properly shifting at the correct RPM causing a **** during shifting.

Some possibilties, not all!

SOURCE: 4L60E Shifts fine in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd but will not shift into OD

The EMC detected and problem so it's in limp mode, As long as it's in limp mode the 4th and OD will not activate. Take care not to burn up the transmission by running it hard while your in the limp mode.
Your going to have to get the truck scanned to clear any codes and why there are DTC codes. Auto Zone scan for free and most auto shops charge $10.00 to $20.00 to scan sine they want the business.
If you want to clear the codes your self you can put the ignition to the run position and pull the ECM (Batt) fuse out for 20 sec and place it back in then start the truck. It may stall but let it, just start it again and this would have cleared all the DTC code history.
The transmission should be running fine unless there is a problem and the service engine light will be on again and you'll be in limp mode still with an updated DTC in the ECM.

1992 Ford F250 Diesel does not engage in any gear including reverse. Any suggestions?


there is a part of the linkage in the steering column,that wears and or breaks,a steering colmn specialist can check this for you and replace it if that is the problem
if that is not the problem, it sounds like you need to take to a transmission mechanic.QUESTION: is the overdrive light on gear shift flashing/ if it is flashing, the problem is definetly in the transmission,not the linkage

Overdrine light on shifter is blinking and tranny is shifting hard through gears on 97 ford f250


That basically means the computer that controls the transmission senses a problem. You need to take it to a dealer to have the code read. Normally the OBD-II scanners don't read transmission error codes. It could simply be a sensor or something much more expensive.

i,m assuming you have a 7.3L diesel if so you have one or more bad glow plugs or a bad glow plug module causing the start issue as for the hard to shift issue is it straight gear , automatic or what without more info that is a loaded question back to the start issue your glow plugs have a harness that is actually part of the valve cover gasket about middle of top of valve cover you will see a connector unhook this connector and inspect both sides they like to burn and melt due to poor connections and will also cause this problem

I have a 1995 Ford F250 Powerstroke Hard Auto shifting


I had the same problem on my 95. The problem was the torque converter was not unlocking. It had to be replaced.

My 97 F250 wont shift out of park? Engine starts,


most likely your brake switch is out. If you had a scanner you would be able to see if the computer see's you pressing on the pedal. Or if you know how to test you could check to see if it switches ( completes the circuit ).

Tranny slips in reverse


Reverse clutches are burnt. Clutch material is getting into valve body causing late shifts since valves can't move. transmisison will have to be overhauled. wish i had better news. sorry

You are setting a trouble code on engine problems, have truck scanned to find error. Trans. will go into safe mode in this instance and this is why shifts hard.

I had a similar problem which turned out to be caused by a leaking vacuum line.

when i bought mine the speedometer odomoter and raido didn't work
put in a fuse that wasnt' in got them all and now when u are driveing it shifts out of gears or sometimes it wont shift past first any ideas?
