You need to have the system checked for what the fault code is...are you sure it's the drivers side air bag or the drivers side, side air bag(located in the seat back?)They're could be a problem with the wiring under the seat.
The light is on because there is a problem with the air bag system. When the air bag light is on the system is not working and will not deploy in the event of an accident. When the air bag light is on the system has set a code in the computer a scanning device can retrieve the code. The code will give you a clue where the problem is. You need a scan tool to check out the code.
Hello and welcome. this light comes on to warn you that there is a problem with the air bag system. when this light comes on, the air bag control module will store a trouble code, this code is used to help isolate the problem. what you will need to do first, is have the air bag system scanned for trouble codes. then a repair can be made on the system
this year of jetta has a know issue with the air bag connections under both front seats. fault codes for side air bags. check for warranty if those codes are there.

BECAUSE AIR BAG CAN STILL BE DEPLOYED.SO BE CAREFUL.
