Question about 1998 Toyota RAV4
Got new car key cut but won't strart car
I kinda had this same problem with mine. The key sometimes would not turn. I took it to the Toyota place and they told me it was probably because the key had been copied so many times from the original it had wore down. I myself had had three keys made because I kept breaking the heads off of them. They made me a factory key from the VIN number of my Rav4 (not a copy) and it hasn't done it since. It only cost about ten bucks.

There's a chance that your key has a chip inside it, & if the new key doesn't have it, yuor car won't start.
