Question about 1997 Pontiac Grand Am
With the key in the on position, listen for a click noise when you step on the brake. It may come from the steering column or the floor shifter. If it doesn't click, then the park lock switch is bad. This switch is located under the cover for your gearshifter. If it does click, then the lock solenoid is bad. This is located by the ignition switch.
