Why does my car not move from a stop until I rev it up and then it kicks in like being rear ended?

Failed Transmission

That happens frequently, when you do not change trans
fluid every 3 years, power steering will fail next,(No Fluid Flushing)

I would have it checked for electronic issues before anything else

Since you continue to use it & it neutrals out & bangs into gear, you
ruined any chance to escape a complete rebuild, from my experience as a former trans shop owner

Chevy 1500 silverado 5.3 4x4 transmition slip

Most likely need a trans rebuild
When you continue to use a vehicle with a trans
that doesn't work properly, you ruin it in about 10 miles of driving
When they slip, they have been abused for days or weeks & your done.

2000 pontiac grand am 3.4 motor auto trans 4 door.Car starts and drives okay motor seems to stumble slightly between 3000-4000 rpms. with car stopped in park try to rev motor will only go between 3200-4000...

Hi Tom your vehicle is equipped with a Rev limiter it will not allow you to rev the engine above 4000 with the trans in park; as for the first problem you may have one of two things, one of the spark plugs or spark plug wires is bad or you have a flat spot on the throttle positioning sensor in which case have be replaced. Good luck?

WHEN DRIVING AND THE TRANS NEEDS TO SHIFT ON MY 2005 VW JETTA 2.5-5 NEW STYLE THE RPM'S REV UP BRIEFLY THEN THE TRANS WILL SHIFT THE SHIFTING IS SMOOTH BUT THE HIGH RPMS WORRY ME.

when vw started to use the computer controlled gearbox system a criticism was the shift was very harsh,to counter this they made it rev slightly before changing.so that you know the system, try this out....without touching the gas.....put it in d and let the car accelerate to its max speed, stop, then use 1/3rd of gas (keep your foot still)and let it do the same...stop,then,if safe, put your foot to the floor, hard, notice when the car changes gear(revs/speed)then if you drive, only using the first1/3rd of the gas,the cars change pattern will alter to suit.......wierd it is.....

It will catch and then let go in first gear and in reverse

the tran is either low on fluid or more likely the forward reverse clutch pack in the auto trans is worn out, in that case you will need an overhaul. My experience: 20 years in a Ford dealer
