You have to replace it is it the serpentine belt or the timing belt if serpentine belt fairly easy replace timing belt little more time consuming

    I think it is the serpentine, black big belt, power steering stopped working

    yes its the serpentine belt cost around 15 bucks at autozone and they take around a hour to replace on either the power steering pump or the alternator there is a tensioner bolt loosen it alot so can put on new belt then tighten it till it has no tension and it is pretty tight dont want no slack or willl fall off break again

Ok it sound like the A/C belt, so turn the key to on (don't start it) and turn the A/C on inside the car and see if it blows cold air.

Battery and brake light on.steering difficult
Sounds like your serpentine belt broke, if you look under the hood and it broke it won't be there,it runs the alternator pulley (battery light), power steering pump pulley (difficult steering), a/c compressor pulley, it is driven by the crankshaft pulley and around a tensioner pulley. You can pick one up anywhere for around 20 bucks and all you need to install it is a I believe a 14mm or 15mm socket or wrench to move the tensioner, the belt routing is usually pictured under the hood somewhere.

Battery light turned on. Lost power steering and AC.
You broke your serpatine belt. Needs replacing. It's a $50ish part and easy to do if you have a diagram under the hood of how the belt fits. But if it was "rattling" for a couple of weeks take it in for crying out loud. Let the mechanic look it over to make sure your lack of vechile care didn't destroy anything under the hood.....

Your belt broke, either something is wrong with a pulley and caused the belt to brake or the belt was just old and broke on its own. Either way needs a belt put back on then see if anything else is wrong

should be a digram under the hood for it, if not you can get one at auto zone for free

Broken belt under hood
The belt is need to turn the alternator which is needed to charge the battery, after the battery starts the car the alternator charges the battery, if the belt is not present the alternater has no way to supply the power needed to recharge the battery. You will need to have the belt replaced.
