Question about 1994 Ford Aerostar Extended

1 Answer

2 problems Hallo, I have a 1994 Ford Aerostar and no clue about cars. The car I just bought and it makes me problems. 1. when I am stopping at a traffic light ... mostly when I am driving in a city it shakes very strong. After I stop for maybe 20 seconds it starts and it looks like he want to drive but I am not on accelerate. Dont know what it is, just happens when I stop and I am standing without moving. 2. Everytime when I start the car after he was standing for longer time he needs a long time to change gear. I need to accelerate very strong and then the gear changes and I can drive a little bit faster... then again when I am fast enough he should change gear again but it takes a long time and I am loosing speed. That happens approx. the first 5-10 Minutes until the motor is warm and then the problem is gone. It works fine. This problem was coming just a week ago. My problem is, I don't know all the car specific words in english... I went twice to the car service with the first problem first they couldn't diagnose the problem because it was a mazda dealership and they cant deal with older Ford cars the second one told me maybe I should first change the spark plug maybe or maybe it's one of the zylinders . - they diagnose that there is coolant leaking, but I am not sure. I did the last 2 weeks a trip of about 2000 km and the car is still running, on the highway very good... not sure what to do. Before I went to service the first time, the check engine light was going off when I was driving in town but it wasnt off when i was driving on the highway. In the last 2 weeks it went off twice. But just maybe for 15 minutes and then it wasnt on anymore. maybe someone has a tip for me, thinking about selling the car but not sure if someone take this problems

    Hi,

I stoped at the dealership regarding the transmission.
The transmission fluid was very low. The refilled it and now the transmission is working fine. The guy wasn't sure if it caused any damage on the transmission. They need to check it next time. But I hadn't had the problems going in the next gear again.

I asked also about the other problems. They told me the head gaskets are leaking. And there is a problem with the spark plugs. They recomended to change the sprak plugs first. Maybe that solves the first problem.
Would be the head gasket expensive to replace?

    Thanks for your answer.

unfotunatelly yes a head gasket problem will be expensive to fix but get a second opinion and go from there i mean have it test on a diferent auto repair to check for posible head gasket problem,

you can also go to autozone and ask for a loan tool they loan the tool and you can do a block test wich will tell you if the gsakets are bad just ask for the block tester tool leave a deposit and when you take the tool back tehy refund the money for the tool

It operates just like any other automatic that you have driven. Put in the D net to the N and let the transmission take care of everything.
