Question about 1988 Toyota Camry

No power to distributor

I got hit in the passenger front quarter panel and the car stopped running. I no longer have power going to my distributor and i was wondering what would cause it to not have power to the distributor. Is there anyway that i can somehow hotwire the distributor to get the car to fire?

Is the coil ok? thats what produces the spark check ur coil lead/wires etc

How do i remove the passenger side front door panel on my 2000 va


All you have to do is unscrew everything on the outside of the panel, unscrew the lock thingy and lift up and away. I'm doing just that later myself. The motor still runs, but the window won't go down.

I replaced my spark plug wires on my 1996 chevy truck. may have crossed one,need a diagram from the spark plugs to the distributer cap.


Since you didn't state whether it is a V6 or V8, I'll give you both.

V6 -4.3Liter
Firing Order is 1-6-5-4-3-2
Distributor rotor turns Clockwise
Number 1 spark plug tower on distributor cap, faces the front of the engine.

->Drivers side, spark plug order in engine, starting from the Front going back:
1-3-5
->Passenger side, spark plug order in engine,
starting from the Front going back:
2-4-6

If it's Electronic, the distributor cap has a Left side, (Drivers side), and a Right side, (Passenger side)
Starting from the Front, going back on the Left side,
3-1-5
Starting from the Front going back on the Right side,
2-4-6

V8-5.0, 5.7, and 7.4Liter
Firing Order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
Distributor rotor turns Clockwise
Number 1 spark plug tower on distributor cap,
faces Front, towards the Drivers side.

Electronic distributor cap has two sides. Drivers, (Left), side and Passenger, (Right), side.
Starting from Front going back on Drivers side,
1-7-3-5
Starting from Front going back on Passenger side,
8-2-4-6

Pass. side front and rear power windows stopped working


if they only stoped working on the passengers side I would check the wirring going into passengers side door for a broken wire, or right at the passengers side kick panel.

you mentioned tht the quarter panel was hit before you owned it was the door hit also
if you think bout it small breaks in the wire from the accident could have got weather in them over time and cause there connections to corrode or deteroiate let an automotive electrical shop give it a look

You need to access from outside the vehicle. You have to remove the shroud that is inside of the wheel well. It is not a very easy task I hope this helps.

Rear side windows


This may be just a case of inadvertently hitting the window lock out n th driver door window switch by mistake. Check that first. Here's some background on window operation

Principles of Operation
The driver power window regulator motor is controlled directly by the master window/door lock/unlock switch (and its integrated "auto down" module). Power is supplied to the power window relay and the master window/door lock/unlock switch, and the passenger power window switch when the SEC/timer module grounds the coil side of the power window relay. The SEC/timer module will ground this relay when the ignition is in the ON position and will remain energized for approximately 15 minutes or until the driver or passenger door is opened.
The driver power window regulator motor is a reversible motor that is operated by applying power and ground to the motor leads to lower the window, and then reversing polarity on those leads to raise the window.
The passenger power window regulator motor is controlled directly by the passenger power window switch and can also be controlled by the master window/door lock/unlock switch. Power is supplied to the power window relay and the master window/door lock/unlock switch, and the passenger power window switch when the SEC/timer module grounds the coil side of the power window relay. The SEC/timer module will ground this relay when the ignition is in the ON position and will remain energized for approximately 15 minutes or until the driver or passenger door is opened.

The power rear quarter glass is also directly controlled by the master window/door lock/unlock switch. The power rear quarter glass power latches also utilize reversible motors. The official name would be the fender. The panel above the rear wheels are referred to as the quarter panels. You will probably pay a lot more money than you need to by ordering an OEM part online. I would call your local salvage yards and ask them if they have a fender off a similar car. I think the 1999-2005 parts are interchangeable. It will still need to be painted by a trusted paint shop but I still think you will save money and your son's car will still look real good!

No power to distributor


is the voltageon your battery still above 12.5 volts if not depending on the impact of the collision your battery plates might have touched and shorted out so check the voltage at the battery otherwise find out what the voltage should be at the distributer i am pretty sure that it is more than 8 volts if so trace that wire and see if there is any problems there check your dist ground aswell.
