Interlinking Guys help! My friend lost the key for her 2007 passat...when she had it towed today the tow truck driver put it into neutral from underneath the hood...she has since found her keys and now can't drive it, the driver said something about unhooking the underlinking, and we don't know how to hook it back up.

I would call the tow truck driver and have him come look at it and show you what exactly he did.

I have a 2014 Buick LeSabre. The electronic key is dead and I need to put the car in neutral to tow it.

most tow company's know of this and have simple devices to cope with this problem (dolly wheels) , if your going to tow it yourself then let me caution you on towing a non running electronic transmission auto , 1st don't do it ! there are lots of tiny parts in there that wont last too long getting moved around in there backwards , second reason lots of these new cars have built in auto theft deterrents , it might go into neutral but if it thinks its being stolen (tilted) it wont stay there (doesn't matter what the gear shift says)
now of course you can move it short distantances in neutral (like off the "railroad tracks") but it is just better to replace the dead battery in the key to avoid any problems before trying to tow it someplace

Automatic shift stuck park

flat towed, in park is not possible
the shift console, has an emergency park lockout, release feature
what is broken, unsaid.??????
the lost operators guide covers both towing rules
and shows that emerg. button location. use it and shift the shifter to neutral.
the front wheels are locked in park.
the problem with flat towing any car are many.
steering lock failure. (locks in motion)
transmission oiling , when the engine is not running the
transmission pump is dead, and oil lube is lacking to many critical areas..
page 163 here covers, the magic switch (emg)

page 160 is tow.
no flat towing.
it can be towed on its rear wheels all day long.

the transmission issues, can be very serious.
do no listen to some dweeb saying gee i towed min 500 miles the wrong way, do not. he never rebuilt a transmission in his life and dont understand how it works deep inside.
page 161,
Never tow a vehicle with an automatic
transmission from the rear with the
front wheels on the ground, as this
may cause serious damage to the

page 162, emergancy towed with chains (flat)
short distance with a driver in the seat
in neutral. , ACC position at key switch.
obviously if the key switch parts, are bad, this dont work and would be
very dangerous to all person, in car, towing, and me on the road.

I have a 93 dodge spirit and no longer have my keys to my car. i need to get it towed to get new keys made before the police tow it. Can i put my car in neutral with out the key?

yes -- you can just step on the brakes and the shifter will shift to neutral. BUT WAIT -- instead of paying for the tow truck to come and tow the car,, just call a automotive locksmith to come out and make you a set of new keys for the car,, this will only take about 30 to 45 minutes and cost only about 75 to 85 dollars.

How to tow a 2003 5.7 liter dodge durango

i am glad you asked
thats i the problem with the electronic select FWD system
when towing a FWD you should put both selectors in neutral this frees the transfer case and the drive shafts
how ever with the electronic system i dont know if it stays in neutral when the car is disconnected from the battery.
so you can make some tryles
  1. put the car in neutral in both selectors "gear and FWD" while the car is running when all the warning bell and stuff have gone off turn off the car
  2. now see if the car can be pushed or towed while the battery is connected
  3. now disconnect the battery and follow step 2
  4. if this works then all is well
i know when towing a FWD car u do need to put the transfer case in neutral to prevent damage
if you have the owners manual check under towing
if you don't, contact your local dealer and see what they say
hope this helps
