Fibreglass would do it considering it bonds to almost anything and is just as strong as steel (strength to weight ratio). Otherwise a sealant would do it. Or if you can find someone with a welder then they can quickly weld a plate onto the bottom covering the holes.

Talk to your local parts store. I can't remember the name of the stuff, but there is a product specifically for this problem. You slosh it around the inside of the tank to seal leaks.

I have a 1997 volvo 850. Just found out the neck of the gas tank is rusted and I need a gas tank.can this be repaired

The world is littered with specialists who will repair just about anything or make new stuff to order and fuel tanks are not an exception. Every now and again somebody working in one of those companies fails to take proper precautions and is killed or injured by an exploding tank and then for a time getting a repair done becomes very difficult. Mostly accidents occur when the customer is in a hurry and the guy is trying to do a favour...

Fuel tank repair is usually a sideline for small companies that supply, build or repair radiators so check your local directory.

A tank sourced from a breaker or salvage yard through one of the many computer-find-a-part services might produce a good clean and rust-free replacement but a new replacement either from the dealer or an aftermarket supplier might not be as expensive as you imagine. This is the best option.

I suggest you ring the dealer for a price and then check the prices of those offering aftermarket replacements. Make the decision after you have the information and new or old, ensure the tank isn't fitted without a few coats of rust protection.

1999 dodge caravon sport vaper lock

I had a 1999 Grand Caravan 3.3L and never had this problem and I lived in Fla. at the time but other vehicles that I've seen this problem in. First, is this vapor lock between the gas tank and the engine or in the engine compartment? If it's between the gas tank and the engine, you might have a rusted pin hole in the steel fuel line or sometimes there might be a section or rubber line in the fuel line where there might be movement in the system. If so, look for a rotted hose or a wet spots on the fuel line from the gas tank to the engine compartment. A tiny pin hole can leak gas out and/or air in and if it's small enough the gas can evaporate before it hits the ground. If it has started locking up in the engine compartment only after all these years, I'd have the fuel pump pressure checked. If this is the case and if it hadn't vapor locked since 1999, up until now the fuel pressure has been adequate to keep the fuel in it's liquid state in the heated environment of the engine compartment. If the pressure has gone low and the fuel line is bolted to something hot like the water pump, for example, like it was on my 1968 307 Chevy Bel Air, the fuel will boil hence, vapor lock. If this is your problem and you can't get it fixed right away, follow the fuel line up from the frame and look for it to be routed, again, near / onto something hot. If you can get it loose and away from the hot area without kinking the steel tube, this may help for a while. I don't know you or how much you know but I would advise against cutting the line and adding rubber hose as clamping a hose to a smooth steel line will eventually leak
and possibly cause a fire. If you know what you're doing or know someone who does, you could use a flairing tool and add more steel line if necessary. In any case, be careful. In the long run, it is always better to repair it or have it repaired properly. Good luck. Jeff M.

I have rust below my doors its bad what do i do

Rust on door bottoms and rocker panels below that is common on those. You can do the repair yourself using fiberglass resin and cloth. it's not difficult but takes time and it's very messy.
You can replace the doors using doors from a wreck (scrapyard) problem there is that it's a bit expensive and since rust there is common, it may be hard to find ones without rust...even harder if you want to match the color. Rockers need to be removed and welded in (also expensive) if you decide to replace rather than using glass.
There are many on-line instructions dealing with fiberglass repairs. Definitely watch them before working with it.
If the rust has not gone through the metal, sand it down and use "rust killer" on it, prime and paint.
I generally use bed liner spray on lower parts of doors as it makes a tough durable finish that can either be painted to match or left black (actually looks classy on certain vehicles, especially if you extend it from bumper to bumper)

How to clean rust from motorcycle gas tank

To remove the loose rust fill the tank to 1/4 of its capacity with small pebbles and shake it. To remove the rest fill the tank up to 1/10 with rust converter solution and slowly rotate it to cover all the rusted parts for at least half an hour.

94 Jeep Wrangler back shelf rusting

Wire brush the area off and vacuum up any debris. You can use "rust killer" on the rusted surfaces and then use fiberglass mat to repair any holes. Overlap holes by at least 5" wherever possible. You can leave this unfinished or use spray bedliner paint to further seal the deck. i also recommend you go underneath and remove any loose rust and spray afterward with rubberized undercoating or rust will continue to form there. When using fiberglass on flat surfaces you can lay mat down dry and just pour resin on it and smooth it out so resin penetrates and you don't have lumps.

Fuel tank leaking how to solve problem gas is not pouring out but is seeping through bottom of tank There is fuel leaking from the top of the tank, is it a fuel overflow release or is the seal on the fuel...

If your gas tank is cracked or has a hole in it, you have to drain the tank, remove the gas tank and replace it, or have it repaired (if possible). If the gas tank is just leaking from the top and dripping along the side and to the bottom, you will still have to empty the gas tank, and remove it to get a good look at the condition of the gasket. It is not uncommon for these gaskets to become cracked or fragile over time because of the harsh chemicals and cleaning agents used in unleaded gas. If you do decide to have the gas tank removed, I would recommend replacing the fuel pump and fuel filter if your car has high mileage. Please rate this response if you found this helpful.
