Question about 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

Brake Switch I have a 2004 Jetta TDI Wagon. I am adding an electric brake controller. The controller requires a 12VDC signal when the brake pedal is pushed. I have looked at the switch with a volt meter and thought the red/black wire on the drivers side of the four pin harness was what I am looking for, but that is not always true. This must be for something else. Question, Is there an easy place to find a 12VDC signal indicating brake pushed under the dash, rather than going all the way back to the brake lamps? thanks, Mark

Follow brake pedal all the way up
you have to lay on your back with a flash lite
on the pedal there will be a backwards bolt this adjusts the brake light switch for deplition or engage ment
if your missing that bolt brake lights will stay on you will find a hole there
across from that hole or bolt (if there) you will see the brake switch thats how the bolt presses the brakes on and off
have a buddy watch tail lights as you press the switch there in
its simple not much else needed
you probably missing the bolt find a flat bolt about 1 inch long 2 nuts these are adjustment nuts

I have no brake lights. On my tdi 2000 jetta

Did you check the bulbs into taillamps and fuses? If they are O.K. check brake light switch, located on the top of brake pedal with two wires connector.Disconnect the plug and short with wire.Check brake lights at the back.If O.K. check the switch. Some models use self adjusting switch.Just pull out the front part of the switch and put him back.

Transmission won't shift out of park

in most cases the shift lockout mechanism has to see a signal from the brake light switch, poss. the brake light fuse is blown or the brake light switch is iether out of adjustment or shorted, first have some one stand behind the vehicle while you step on the brake pedal, do you have brake lights ? no, check all the fuses, and or brake light switch, yes, poss problem with lockout system.

2005 VW Jetta TDI Wagon: Left brake light doesn't

Very difficult. You have to open the inside access door on the drivers side, remove the amp and wheel well cover, pinch the tabs and the bulb cluster will release. The taillight assembly is bolted from inside of the car, so it can't be done outside.

safety switch on brake pedal. common cause is a wire breaking off. there are 1 to 2 wires going to this switch. It is located on the brake pedal bracket above the foot pad.

Cruise control indicater lights are on but will not engage

Check the cruise control module connector, see if it looks good and there is power to the module over one of the white wires in the 10 pin connector.
There are two white wires going to the module which is located at pins "G" and "J". There should be no voltage at pin "G" until the brake switch is applied. This switch is also used to operate the brake lights. The two wire colors on this switch are white and orange. At pin "J", this signal goes to the PCM to tell it that the cruise control module is engaged. Here is the info on the cruise control connector:

Pin A: gray - cruise control on switch signal: 12VDC with cruise switch on
Pin B: dark blue - cruise control set/coast switch signal: 12VDC with switch pressed
Pin C: gray/black - cruise control resume/accel switch signal: 12VDC with switch pressed
Pin D: brown - cruise control release signal: 12VDC with brake pedal not pressed: 0V when pressed
Pin E: black/white - ground
Pin F: brown - ignition 3 voltage: 12VDC with ignition on
Pin G: white - stop lamp switch signal: 0V with brake pedal not pressed: 12VDC when pressed
Pin H: dark green - cruise control inhibit signal: 0V if PCM detects an inhibit condition
Pin J: white - cruise control engaged signal: voltage (unsure of value, either 12VDC or 5VDC) when signal engaged
Pin K: dark green - vehicle speed signal: 1 to 5 volts depending on speed

This view of connector is facing it after it is separated.

Trying to post the connector view, the lines may not quite line up, but at least it should show you the pin positions.

Auto gearshift lock on 2000 jetta won't unlock

Check and make sure the brake lights work, if the system doesn't get a signal that the brake pedal is pressed it won't come out of part, it is the park interlock safety feature, the problem won't be bulbs, it will be a brake light switch problem, if the brake light do work, the next place to look is the park release solenoid, it will be on the steering column most likely down low under the dash.
