P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1)

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0174, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Symptoms: You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration.

Causes: A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
* There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Possible solutions include:
* In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
* Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
* Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment).

Engine running lean--check engine for vacuum leaks. Look for cracked or unhooked hoses. Also test intake manifold gasket. I spray ether on the gasket with engine running. If the engine speeds up, there is a leak. Let us know f you have more questions.

What cause rough idle at low speed?

the code is for random misfire, multiple cylinders, as you've replaced the plugs and leads then I would check the coils and the fuel injection

Engine misfire and start and stop shows code po171 and po174

I'd use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Those are fuel trim codes.

How long since a tune-up? 02 sensors are part of a tune-up. I don't know if a tune-up will fix your problem, but, it's a start?

What is po171 code mean

PO171 means the engine is running lean(that means that the engine is getting too much oxygen rather than fuel)! Although replacing the 02 sensor has a chance of solving it, unfortunately it doesn't always do so.

Are there any symptoms? Rough running at any point? Loss in power? Idle problems?

This could be caused by many things: A vacuum leak, EVAP system not working properly, injector(s) clogged, or fuel pump/fuel filter issue.
There is also a very small chance that the O2 sensors become contaminated by certain types of silicone sealants installed in improper areas of the engine. I think that this last possibility would take a long time to show up in the computer.

Do you have access to an OBD2 scanner that shows live data? If so, I can give you more info how to try and pinpoint this problem.

Po171 po174 restricted performance

Common fault is leaking gasket on intake manifold towards the back, do you have the following symptoms - uneven idle - sudden cut out on idle but starts up again with no problem?
If so you will find a leak on the inlet manifold. The codes show a leak after the MAF- so this is the area to check. Hope this helps.

P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1
YOU WILL NEED TO AVE THE DEALER TEST THE O2 SENSOR FOR PROPER SWITCHING, RIGHT NOW IT SHOWS ALWAYS LEAN, THIS MAY BE THE SENSOR OR THE ENGINE MAY REALLY BE LEAN ON FUEL AIR RATIO, AS FAR AS THE SMOKE GOES THE 2 ARE PROBABLY NOT RELATED, HOW MANY MILES ON CAR? IF THE MILES ARE HIGH THEN REPLACE THE O2 SENSOR ON THE CYLINDER BANK WHERE # 1 CYLINDER IS LOCATED, THE SENSOR IS THE ONE BEFORE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
