Heater hose I have a f150 ford pickup 2001 6cy. 4.2 I want to change my heater hose from heater to water pump . do i need a special tool for the clamp and could you please give me directions on it

Is it a factory clamp, would it be possible to take a picture of it since there are many types of clamps. If it is a factory clamp (one without a bolt which can be removed by a screwdriver or a wrench or one that can have a pliers squeeze the clips together) then you will have to pry it off and buy a new clamp since these aren't meant to be reused. You can pry it off with a pliers or a screwdriver. Let me know what else you may need help with here and I would be glad to assist as we own two ford trucks of our own.

Hi, no if the **** doesnt have a screw to clamp it tighter then all you need to do is get some big pliers like mole grips and just push either end together then slide it over the kink in the hose this will then allow you to work the hose off do this at both ends and then you should find it will just pull off. The same putting it back on but just make sure any air is out of the pipes before starting else it will over heat their should be something so you can bleed the system for air.

    if the clamp dont have a screw or small nut in it to tighten the clamp onto the end of the hose then the other type of clamp is one where it pinches tight onto the hose then holding it onto the rad.
    The clamp is usually where the clamp part is to undo it usually it runs around the hose then the both ends come together with the one end being inside of the other end so pushing these together opens the clamp up slightly allowing you to slide the clamp over the sort of hump in the hose then you should be able to work the hose of.

    The other sort of clamp is one that has a screw on a certain point of the clamp and tightening the screw up springs the clamp open enough to allow you to work the hose off.

    The only other type i knoe of is crimped together and needs to be snapped off where its crimped together then you will need to buy normal clamps that screw up any car repair shop will stock these and they can be brought for next to nothing so if his is your type of clamp and it has no screw or you cant use pliers to open it up then the chances are the clamp has to be broke off by working some pliers on the part thats crimped together then replace the clamps with screw fit ones.
    This will give you easy access in the future if you need to undo it again.

    Ive been a mechanic for 11 years and the only clamps i have come across are the three i mentioned or slightly similar but if its not the first two then work the clamp with pliers where its crimped together or use snips and cut the clamps off and replace with screw fit clamps.

    @Basti can you find any pictures of the clamps as ive looked at your link and it doesnt show the clamps the person is on about as its the clamps they are having difficulty with. maybe you can find some info for them

Mercury Milan 2008-2009
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Loosen the 3 coolant pump pulley bolts.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  5. Remove the 3 bolts and the coolant pump pulley.
    1. To install, tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  6. Remove the 3 bolts and the coolant pump.
  7. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
    1. To install, tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

To install:
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  2. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.
  3. Fill and bleed the cooling system

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the coolant pump belt.
  4. Using Special tool 303-S455, or equivalent, remove the coolant pump drive pulley.

5, Disconnect the heater hose from the coolant pump.
6. Disconnect the coolant pump-to-engine hose and position aside.
7. Remove the 3 bolts from the coolant pump assembly.
8. Reposition the coolant pump-to-thermostat housing hose clamp and remove the coolant pump and hose as an assembly.

To install:
  1. Connect the coolant pump-to-thermostat housing hose and reposition the clamp.
  2. Position the coolant pump assembly and install the 3 bolts:
    1. Tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    2. Tighten the 3 bolts an additional 90 degrees.
  3. Connect the coolant pump-to-engine hose and the heater hose.
    NOTE
    Install the coolant pump drive pulley flush with the end of the camshaft.
  4. Using Special tools 211-185 and 303-S455, or equivalent, install the coolant pump drive pulley.

5. Install the coolant pump belt.
6. Fill and bleed the cooling system.

Replacing water pump


This is for the 3.9 v6 you did not specify motor size.

The water pump can be removed and installed without discharging the air conditioning system (if equipped).
  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Drain cooling system.
  3. Do not waste reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse.
WARNING: CONSTANT TENSION HOSE CLAMPS ARE USED ON MOST COOLING SYSTEM HOSES. WHEN REMOVING OR INSTALLING, USE ONLY TOOLS DESIGNED FOR SERVICING THIS TYPE OF CLAMP, SUCH AS SPECIAL CLAMP TOOL (NUMBER 6094). SNAP-ON CLAMP TOOL (NUMBER HPC-20) MAY BE USED FOR LARGER CLAMPS. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN SERVICING CONSTANT TENSION CLAMPS.

CAUTION: A number or letter is stamped into the tongue of constant tension clamps. If replacement is necessary, use only an original equipment clamp with matching number or letter.


  1. Remove upper radiator hose clamp and hose at radiator.
Fan Blade And Viscous Fan Drive-3.9L/5.2L/5.9L Engines 81898572


  1. The thermal viscous fan drive is attached (threaded) to the water pump hub shaft. Remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from water pump by turning mounting nut counterclockwise as viewed from front. Threads on viscous fan drive are RIGHT HAND. A Snap-On 36 MM Fan Wrench (number SP346 from Snap-On Cummins Diesel Tool Set number 2017DSP) can be used. Place a bar or screwdriver between water pump pulley bolts to prevent pulley from rotating. Do not attempt to remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle at this time.
  2. If water pump is being replaced, do not unbolt fan blade assembly from thermal viscous fan drive.
  3. Remove fan shroud attaching hardware (two bolts at bottom-two clips at top).
  4. Remove fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle as a complete unit.
  5. After removing fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly, do not place thermal viscous fan drive in horizontal position. If stored horizontally, silicone fluid in viscous fan drive could drain into its bearing assembly and contaminate lubricant.
  6. Do not remove water pump pulley bolts at this time.
Automatic Belt Tensioner Assembly-3.9L/5.2L/5.9L Engines 81898573


  1. Remove accessory drive belt as follows: The drive belt is equipped with a spring loaded automatic tensioner. Relax tension from belt by rotating tensioner clockwise (as viewed from front). When all belt tension has been relaxed, remove accessory drive belt.
  2. Remove four water pump pulley-to-water pump hub bolts and remove pulley from vehicle.
  3. Remove lower radiator hose clamp and remove lower hose at water pump.
  4. Remove heater hose clamp and heater hose from heater hose coolant return tube.
Coolant Return Tube-3.9L/5.2L/5.9L Engines-Typical 81898574


  1. Loosen heater hose coolant return tube mounting bolt and remove tube from water pump. Discard the old tube O-ring.

  1. Remove seven water pump mounting bolts.
  2. Loosen clamp at water pump end of bypass hose. Slip bypass hose from water pump while removing pump from vehicle. Discard old gasket.

The water pump can be removed and installed without discharging the air conditioning system (if equipped).

INSTALLATION

  1. Clean gasket mating surfaces.
  2. Using a new gasket, install water pump to engine as follows: Guide water pump nipple into bypass hose as pump is being installed. Install water pump bolts. Tighten water pump mounting bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) torque.
  3. Position bypass hose clamp to bypass hose.
  4. Spin water pump to be sure that pump impeller does not rub against timing chain case/cover.
  5. Install a new O-ring to the heater hose coolant return tube. Coat the new O-ring with antifreeze before installation.
  6. Install coolant return tube and its mounting bolt to engine. Be sure the slot in tube bracket is bottomed to mounting bolt. This will properly position return tube.
  7. Connect radiator lower hose to water pump.
  8. Connect heater hose and hose clamp to coolant return tube.
  9. Install water pump pulley. Tighten bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) torque. Place a bar or screwdriver between water pump pulley bolts to prevent pulley from rotating.
  10. Relax tension from belt tensioner. Install accessory drive belt.
  11. CAUTION: When installing the serpentine accessory drive belt, the belt must be routed correctly. If not, engine may overheat due to water pump rotating in wrong direction. Refer to Illustration above for correct belt routing. The correct belt with correct length must be used.
  12. Position fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly to vehicle as a complete unit.
  13. Install fan shroud.
  14. Install fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly to water pump shaft.
  15. Fill cooling system.
  16. Connect battery negative cable.
  17. Start and warm the engine. Check for leaks.

97 ford f150 4.6 the pipe that gos to heater core hose is leaking. is this pipe pressed in? thanks


The inlet/outlet pipes (tubing) is an integral part of the heater core. If the actual core is leaking, you 'll need to remove and replace or repair the heater core. Be sure it's not the hose that is failing ... alot easier and cheaper to change out a hose and clamps...

How to replace a water pump on a 2003 yukon


Water Pump Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L Engines)
Removal Procedure
1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Loosen the air cleaner outlet duct clamps at these locations:
 Throttle body
 Mass Airflow/Intake Air Temperature (MAF/IAT) sensor
3. Remove the radiator inlet hose clip from the outlet duct.
4. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
5. If necessary, remove the engine sight shield.
6. Remove the radiator vent inlet hose from the radiator hose clips.
7. Reposition the inlet hose clamp at the water pump.
8. Remove the inlet hose from the water pump.
9. Remove the fan blade.
11. Reposition the outlet hose clamp at the water pump.
12. Remove the outlet hose from the water pump.
13. Reposition the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the water pump.
14. Remove the surge tank outlet hose from the water pump.
15. Reposition the heater inlet hose clamp at the water pump.
16. Remove the heater inlet hose from the water pump.
17. Remove the water pump bolts.
18. Remove the water pump and gaskets.
19. Discard the water pump gaskets
Installation Procedure Important: All gaskets surfaces are to be free of oil or other foreign material
during assembly.
1. Install the water pump and NEW gaskets
2. Install the water pump bolts.
3. Install the heater inlet hose to the water pump.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service and Precautions.
2.1. Tighten the bolts a first pass to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
2.2. Tighten the bolts a final pass to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
4. Position the heater inlet hose clamp at the water pump.
5. Install the surge tank outlet hose to the water pump.
6. Position the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the water pump.
7. Install the outlet hose to the water pump.
8. Position the outlet hose clamp at the water pump.
9. Install the accessory drive belt.
10. Install the fan blade.
11. Install the inlet hose to the water pump.
12. Position the inlet hose clamp at the water pump.
13. Install the engine vent inlet hose to the radiator hose clips.
14. If necessary, install the engine sight shield.
Important: Align the arrow at the throttle body end of the duct with the throttle
body attaching stud.
15. Install the air cleaner outlet duct
16. Install the radiator inlet hose clip to the outlet duct.
17. Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamps at these locations:
 Throttle body
 MAF/IAT sensor Tighten the clamps to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).
18. Fill the cooling system.

I hope this helps. The numbering is incorrect in the sequence but the instructions are correct.

IN-VEHICLE SERVICE Water Pump SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S) REQUIRED Description Tool Number Fuel Line Disconnect Tool Set T90T-9550-S
Removal
  1. Drain engine cooling system. Refer to Section 03-03 .
  1. Loosen drive belt tensioner (6B209) and remove drive belt (8620). Refer to Section 03-05 .
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02 .
  1. Disconnect lower radiator hose (8286) from radiator lower hose tube (8291) and radiator (8005).
  1. Disconnect radiator lower hose tube from water pump (8501).
  1. Remove lower nut on both front engine support insulators (6038).
  1. Lower vehicle.
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01 .
  1. Remove generator (GEN) (10346) from power steering pump support (3C511).
  1. Position drain pan and disconnect power steering pressure line from power steering pump (3A674) using Fuel Line Disconnect Tool Set T90T-9550-S.
  1. Remove power steering reservoir filler cap.

    Disconnect water bypass hose (8597) and oil cooler hose (6B850) from heater water outlet tube (18663).
  1. Remove retaining bolts and disconnect heater water outlet tube from water pump.
  1. Remove A/C bracket brace.
  1. Attach engine lifting eye to left-hand (front) exhaust manifold (9430).
  1. Attach lifting equipment to engine lifting eye and raise front of engine approximately 51 mm (2.0 inches) to provide necessary clearance for water pump removal.
  1. Remove water pump pulley retaining bolts and water pump pulley (8509).
  1. Remove drive belt tensioner pulley retaining bolt and drive belt tensioner pulley (6B217) from power steering pump support.
  1. Remove power steering pump support retaining bolts and nut. Place power steering pump and support assembly aside in a position to prevent fluid leakage.
  1. Remove water pump retaining bolts and nuts and water pump. Discard used water pump housing gasket (8507).
Installation
  1. NOTE: Lightly oil all bolt and stud bolt threads before installation except those specifying special sealant.

    Clean gasket surfaces on water pump and engine front cover (6019).
  1. NOTE: The threads of the No. 1 engine front cover retaining stud must be coated with Pipe Sealant with Teflon® D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G350-A2 before installing.

    NOTE: Gasket and Trim Adhesive D7AZ-19B508-B or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M2G52-A is recommended to hold the water pump housing gasket in position.

    Position a new water pump housing gasket on water pump housing sealing surface.
  1. Position water pump on the engine front cover. Install retaining bolts.
  1. Position power steering pump support and install retaining nuts and bolts. Tighten bolts and nuts to 40-55 Nm (30-40 lb-ft).
  1. Install drive belt tensioner pulley and retaining bolt. Tighten bolt to 70-95 Nm (52-70 lb-ft).
  1. Install A/C bracket brace.
  1. Position water pump pulley on water pump hub and install retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 8.0-11.5 Nm (71-101 lb-in).
  1. Lower engine and disconnect lifting equipment from lifting eye.
  1. Remove lifting eye from exhaust manifold.
  1. Connect heater water outlet tube to water pump and install retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 8-11.5 Nm (71-101 lb-in).
  1. Connect water bypass hose and oil cooler hose to heater water outlet tube. Tighten clamps securely.
  1. Connect power steering pressure line to power steering pump fitting.
  1. Install power steering reservoir filler cap.
  1. Install generator to power steering pump support. Refer to Section 14-02 .
  1. Connect battery ground cable. Refer to Section 14-01 .
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02 .
  1. Install lower nut on front engine support insulators and tighten retaining nut to 88-119 Nm (65-87 lb-ft). Install lower nut of rear engine support insulator and tighten to 77-104 Nm (56-76 lb-ft).
  1. Connect radiator lower hose tube to water pump. Install retaining bolt and tighten securely.
  1. Connect lower radiator hose to radiator lower hose tube and radiator. Position hose clamps securely. Refer to Section 03-03 .
  1. Lower vehicle.
  1. Position drive belt over drive belt tensioner and release drive belt tensioner. Refer to Section 03-05 .

  1. Start engine and check for coolant and power steering fluid leaks. Service as necessary.

How do you get the water pump and fan disconnected from each other on a 1997 Dodge Pickup truck 318 motor?


you need a special tool , a fan nut tool , it's like a 1-1/2 " ,actualy a little smaller , i use a 1-1/2" wrench and smack it with a rubber mallet , but there is a tool for it , i think checkers auto has a loan -a-tool program , but to buy it is expensive , it is normal threaded - counter clockwise is off . a special tool holds the 4 bolts on the pulley and the other part of the tool fits on the big nut . sorry i can't fix ya , cuz who has a 1-1/2" wrench or the special wrench in there home arsinal .

detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery then loosen the 4 water pump pulley bolts be sure to do this before removing the drive belt then remove the drive belt, alternator, and remove accessory drive belts and idler assembly bolts loosen the hose clamp and detach the heater hose from the water pump and then remove bolts from water pump they around $36.00 at NAPA

There is a special tool that is required to hold the fan clutch. Then the fan screws out of the clutch. The tool can be bought or rented at your friendly parts store like autozone, etc. It will look something like this:  http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Clutch-Water-Pulley-Holding/dp/B000RT924E
