If it's an automatic, it has a Transmission range Switch (neutral safety switch). If it's a manual transmission, it'll have a clutch start switch. Here's the schematic:

Need a wiring digram for a 2004 Ford Explorer starting system

Sorry but I can't help with a diagram.

I think your car could be a CANbus system where there is no direct connection between the starter switch and the starter motor. Starting is likely to be controlled by a relay which is energised by an ECU if the immobiliser has been disarmed, the starter switch only serving to send a signal to a nearby computer for starting to take place.

If this is your system it is possible to check the switch, relay, starter in the traditional manner but glitches in the system will need specialist diagnostic equipment to locate.

Apologies if I have guessed wrongly...

2005 starter wiring diagrams from ignition switch to starter soliniod

The ignition switch does not go to the starter solenoid . Pin 87 at the starter relay sends B+ voltage to the starter relay . Do you know what a starter relay is an how it works ? The ignition switch is an input to the PCM - engine computer . When the PCM sees this B+ voltage from the switch it energizes the starter relay sending B+ voltage to the starter solenoid . http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams !

12 bmw 318 on off ignition button gives a buzz when I press to turn off ignation after driving car

It is very prudent and sensible of you to have concerns about this.

I would check with BMW service if that is an issue with that system and, in particular, whether or not it is an indication that the there might be an impending failure. Unless there is some kind of back up key that can enable you to operate the ignition and starter motor to start the car if the starter button fails, such a failure will leave you stranded. On some vehicles with this starter button system, failure of the starter button definitely will leave you with no other way of starting the car..

After driving my 2000 chrysler sebring coupe for about 40 min, the ignation fuse blows and keeps blowing every time i turn key to starting position. can this have anything to do with my distributor and/or...

i would expect the problem to lie in the ignition switch/starter motor circuit , the 40 min drive is irrelevent as there must be a short or overheated wire somewhere, check the wire's to and from starter for tightness, corrosion ,wear ,melting etc , also check the battery wire's for the same and the ignition switch

Will not turn over! Starter won't engage!!

When you turn the key to on, do the dash and warning lights come on? This would verify power to the ignition switch.

It's like this: you have a positive battery cable with a lot of juice connected to the starter, but not to the starter motor. It is only connected to the starter motor when the start wire out of the ignition switch energizes the starter solenoid, mounted on top of the starter.

So you check the small wire to the starter for power with the key held in start. If it has power then, the starter or the solenoid is probably bad- as long as the battery is charged and the battery connections and starter connection is good.
If you have no power on the small wire in start, trace the start wire back to the ignition switch. You may need a wiring diagram- there is often a start relay, a park/neutral safety switch with automatics or a clutch safety switch with a manual transm., and sometimes a "crank" fuse. All or some may be in the path of the start wire from ignition switch to the starter solenoid. You would need a voltmeter or test light to check this circuit. If you want more help, post back with make, model, year, and engine, and I could look at a wiring diagram for your start circuit, or I could post a link for you to see the diagram.

How do you know if you need a starter?

if you hear a clicking sound at the starter when trying to start it and you tap the starter with something while starting it and it turns over or it won`t turn the motor over, you will have to check for proper voltages at the starter both on the battery terminal of the starter and the solinoid terminal of the starter that comes from the key switch.

1998 tl 3.2 won't start. only a 'tak' sound can be heard

it culd be problem with solinoied switch of starter, or with ignation switch, to find out, when car wont start some one have to check supply at starer solinoid small nut mounted wire, if supply is there then you can go to check if any relay is there before ignation switch if relay is fine you can replace ignation switch.
