Hi, i wouldnt worry to much as they are built to a realy high quality and they do last well. They can be expensive to repair if anything does go wrong but this only tends to happen if the car has been raced around alot.
The engines on these will last ages you should find you will never have any problems just keep it serviced regular and use the best oil you can as this will prolong the life of the engine.

Dont worry to much as these cars will run and run and have very few problems the key is to look after it and get it serviced regular.

You made a good choice buying the car so dont worry as they very often have problems just look after it but with a car like that im sure you will.
Check service history and the last time it had full service if this wasnt recent then get it done as soon as you can use only the best oil and youll never have no problems.

Hope you enjoy your car and the best thing is they dont tend to lose money so as a resale point of view you have made a good choice.
If you have any questions just give me a shout back as i have been a mechanic for the last 11 years and have never done any major work on your make of car the only work i have done is service and valet so good luck and happy driving.

2004 Jaguar, Vaden Plaus, car just quit running going down the road. Had to have it towed home Won't start, turns over, just won't start, says Restricted Performance.

Sounds like it is some type of 'limp home' mode.
It could be anything. It might be as simple as a bad Fuel Pump Relay. When you turn the Key to the ON position (not Start) can you hear a little buzz for about 1 second? That would be your fuel pump running. You need to see if the engine is getting gas and spark.

Process of buying a 2004 jaguar X type. Engine light came on - following codes P0420 + P1111. Do I still buy?

I'd tell them to fix the problems unless you want to invest additional money to sort out an unknown problem. Google year make model and codes you should be able to find what the codes mean and some idea of what needs attention. Wild guess, it's emission problems. It may include a bad Catalytic converter. That will cost dearly.

Jaguar x type...started the car 2day when i put my foot on the accelerator there was no speed...i can put my foot all the way down and no speed its got no acceleration...its driving but slow...

if there is also black smoke coming out the exhaust - and the problem is intermittent - then it's the EGR valve - it sticks open - will need replacing.... Happened to mine this morning and this is what the Jaguar Assistance guy said. Mine is a 2006 2 litre X-type.

Why should I not buy a 2004 X-Type Jaguar?

Biggest problem on the X-type generation was the transmissions going. The X-type remains the only all wheel drive car Jaguar ever built, and they now don't produce any. You may be limited to only rebuilt parts as that car is no longer in production. Depending on the cars miles, I would be shocked if it has not already had the trans replaced.

On a smaller note, the sound system is not very good, so if your a music guy, you may need to spend some money on aftermarket upgrades.

On occasion the varible intake solenoids will need the orings replaced. when this happens the car gets the dreaded "check engine" light and will run poorly. Repair would cost around 3 to $400.00 dollars.

Good luck!
