Re: How to change the starter on a 1991 chevy suburban
In order too replace your starter it is up under your engine. located on the driver side of your truck. It should only be 3 bolts that are 9/16. remove those and the wiring connecting too the starter. pull it out and you will be able too put a new one right in.

most starters are the same on chevy 350s should bolt right up, if you have to change torque converter, but most chevy 350 flywheels are universal. that's the good thing about a chevy most everything 350 smallblock bolts right up. hope this helps
check that you have the starter wire on the solenoid correctly
whne you say power to the starter --is that from the battery lead or the small control wires from the ignition switch
ANY time you do any work on the electical system in a car its agood idea to disconnect the battery.
It'a like unplugging the toaster before digging for that stuck piece of bread
Check the light bulbs first; if the bulbs are ok then you most likely have a bad light switch. It costs $15.00 and not to hard to replace, if you need help with this post here and I will give you instructions on how to replace. I assume you don't have a volt ohmmeter.
