Remove the number one spark plug and insert a long screw driver in the spark plug hole then turn the engine and when the screw driver gets to the top or highest level and just about to go down again then there is the top dead center then look for two marks on the crank gear and make sure they match

2001 Kia Optima Vibration.I took it to the shop, they replace the timing belt and balancer shaft belt and components and it still vibrates. What is the cause ? The vibration is so severe it rattles the car...

Have they replaced the harmonic balancer (vibration dampener) on the crankshaft. I wouldve also made sure that thier wasnt a motor or a transmission mount that was bad or even possibly a broken exhaust hanger allowing the exhaust to sit or rub on the chassis, hopefully they checked these things before installing a timing belt which usaually causes a noise rather then a vibration
Good luck

My car stopped a dead stop

If you were driving and your Kia Optima just turned off. Your timimg belt broke and you will also need a crank shaft sensor too. There is a total of two belts inside the motor area (timing belt and balance belt) I would change out the ac and power steering belt as well so their is a total of four belts on the KIA 2004 OPTIMA.

2001 kia reo 4cyl. dohc replaced head gasket and had head re-surfaced put it back together and it acts like there is no compression

Did you recheck the engine valve timing (Timing Belt) after you finished? If so check it again. Timing has to be set on #1 top dead center. You probably know this if you did the head gasket.

How i put my new timing belt in a kia optima 2.4 2005, how?

Bring cylinder # 1 up to top dead center! on the compression stroke.
Remove all of the timing cover from the engine and any other components that may be in the way.
Look for the timing marks on the upper cam gear!
Look for the marks on the lower crankshaft gear as well.
Look in a repair manual for the correct position of the marks of the gears as to where they line up with a notch, a dot, ect.
Make sure # 1 piston is at tdc on the compression stroke.
loosen the belt tensioner, and pry it over in the loosened position.Check the bearing in the belt tensioner,if it feels dry or rough replace it. Replace the belt in the reverse order.Follow repair procedure on belt tension.

Replacing timing belt need to know how the cams should be set before installing belt.

The top camshafts need to be 'locked' into place. You can purhase or rent a tool to do this. If you don't hold the cams in place they will move when the belt tension is released. Always set the crank to top dead center and mark all gears just in case.

2001 kia optima 2.5L setting the timing

TDC stands for Top Dead Center, however it is only to set the cylinder number ! at TDC, if yu know where the timing marks are align the crank pulley mark to the "0" of the timing mark, usually this can be achieved by setting the crank shaft doel pin to twelve 0 clock position.
