Engine surges at just above idle speed. Most noticable when warming up or engine is cold. Goes away at higher RPM or at idle. Any ideas what's going on? This is a carbureted car. Automatic choke. Also notice a clicking noise somewhere around the carburetor just prior to RPM droping. (Does this over and over)

SOURCE: Carburetor Cleaner Test

sounds like this needs to be diagnosed fruther with a scanner/consult 2 to see how certain components are working in the car such as 02 sensors and MAF sensor/air flow meter. problems like this are hard ti diagnose over the internet, where I can't actually look at the car in real life. But it could be MAF/air flow meter. Just do one test. Find the A/C drain tube located on firewall on passenger side. See if you can blow some compressed air into the drain hose and see if any water comes out. Let me know what you find.

Plz check engine coolant temperature sending unit that feeds the computer. (Not the one that controls gauge on dash).

2002 Nissan Altima Cold air blows at idle but is warm at higher engine RPM

Heater core may be clogged. Try flushing it to see if water flows through freely. Also check the heater water control valve for restrictions.

When engine warms up it start to surge

Engine stalls cold or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control. If the above cleaning doesn't cure your issues you need to have the computer controlled automatic idle speed control system diagnosed and repaired by a dealer or electronic engine control repair shop.

2003 S10 2.2L low speed miss

Could be a vac leak or other ignition problem.
A vac leak could be covered up by the extra fuel and higher idle speed when the engine is cold. And if it is a gasket leaking the leak can get bigger as the engine warms up.
A faulty plug wire or coil could start failing when hot.
A solid miss-fire should make the check engine light come on and set a trouble code.

I have a 1990 Tracker. When cold it idles very high, 2300 RPM, then goes to a surging idle as it warms up< 1400 to 2000RPM, then after it is warm it idles nicely. How do I reduce the idle when cold...

sounds like the idle air control sensor is bad or it could be the idle speed control sensor(module) both can be found on the throttlebody. but to be sure you can take the car to auto-zone and they will run a free diagnostic even if you dont have a check engine light there still may be a code stored.

Oil light is on

May be bad oil pressure sending unit. Best way to check is to connect a mechanical oil pressure guage to engine and check pressures when engine is warm. Should be no lower than 40 psi at idle when warm, no higher than 70 psi at 2000 rpm.

4runner idle high when cold after warm up it idle 1200 rpm shot down engine after fuw min. restarting the engine the idle to low?

it seems that the auto choke setting is maybe wrong or there is a problem with engine management, or a worn part which is sticking.

when cold, the engine should be higher as the choke will be on but a warm up idle of 1200 seem a bit high i would expect around 800 and then on restart if the engine is warm then the choke should be off but the idle being too low indicates one of the above.

2004 Chevy Tahoe. Heater working only at higher speeds.

you have air trapped in the cooling system. A good indication is that one or both of your heater hoses going into the heater core are cold when they should be hot.
Park facing uphill, raise front of vehicle so radiator cap is higher than top of engine. (You want bubble to get to radiator and out the cap.)
Leave cap on but loose, so bubble can purge.
Turn heater on.
Fill radiator and reservoir with 50/50 mix of antifreeze.
Start engine and run at about 1500 roms until the engine warms up and thermostat opens.
You will know themostat opens when top radiator hose is hot indicating coolant is flowing.
Shut off engine.
Fill radiator and reservoir. Install cap.

please Rate as fixya if this works. good luck
