On my 1998 Chevrolet Astro van: no matter what I set the vent control to, the air from the blower comes out of the defroster vents. Does anyone know why?

They damper door is stuck could be on the dash control or the damper door itself

Testimonial: "thanks. I'll search for common damper door malfunctions."

It is most likely a vacuum line near the A/C condenser. Replace it or check for leaks

Only air from defrost vent. Checked vacuum lines. All good. What else to check?

You would check for vac at the blend door servo. The servo could be leaking, or it may not have vac from the control valve on the dash.

Blower air just through defroster vents, not front vents

The problem is that the plastic lines that the air flows through get frail and cracks and breaks. What happens is when the hose breaks you loose vacuum and the system reverts to defrost mode. You should be able to see it from under the hood on the passengers side. You will have to find the area that is broken and then go to the parts store and get some rubber hose that will fit over the plastic hose.Take a piece of the plastic hose with you so you can get the right size hose to fit over it.This just happened to my 97 Astro van.I found the broken hose and repaired it with the rubber line and is working normal now.Hope this helps.Let me know what you find out.Good luck.

2000 chevy astro cargo van. the heat registers on the gage but little comes out and only out defrost. thermostat????

If it is blowing hot air out of the defroster and not out of the heater vents then the door that directs the heat from the defroster isn't working properly it is blocking the heat from going to the heater vents. Also check the cold air door. It sounds like it isn't closing all the way to shut off the cold air and not letting the hot air pass.

2000 chevy astro van blower

Yes it could but also check under the hood because it is a very common problem for a vaccumm line to come unhooked causing this problem. Hope this helps, Allen, swiftautorepairs.com

Don't get any air from vents on 1998 Chevrolet astro van. Just replaced clutch fan. Air cond. works fine and fan works fine. Is something not connected?

SOUNDS LIKE THE AC CONTROL HAS LOST VACUUM FROM THE ENGINE, YOU MAY HAVE KNOCKED A HOSE OFF WHILE CHANGING THE FAN CLUTCH, IS THE AIR COMING OUT THE DEFROST VENTS BY CHANCE?

There is a flap in your heater box that is controled by your vent switch by your heater controls. listen for a vacuum leak. that is common and hopfully the problem. there is vacuum lines that control the vent door that redirects the air to your vents.

Has your dash been messed with recently? if so i would check there first. you should hear a hissing if thats the problem.

Otherwise these also are common for that door flap to break and not switch NE more. thats the only 2 things that i can think of off th wtop of my head to be the problem. this would require the whole dash to come apart if its this problem

1998 Mustang - AC blows only through Defrost vents

You probably have a vacuum leak on the passenger side. its a small plastic hose some times they come unpluged from the engine. or brake.

The mode control switch is either defective or the switch has no vacuum, the motors that send the air to different outlets are powered by vacuum.

i suspect the vents are controlled by vacuum and are not opening due to a vacuum leak.
