You might have a cold start solenoid, It is an extra injector that gives it lots of gas on cold start and then turns off when it is up to temp. If you do have one, then it may be clogged or faulty. It is usually located on the intake manifold seperate from the normal injectors. Follow the fuel line and see if it branches off to any other device other than the fuel rail .

Ford escort 1.6i 16v been running lumpy at first start then after about 30secs it starts run fine have noticed idle does drop now again never cuts out had new lambda and cat plugs leads the lot

But what is your complaint?
All cars have to run lumpy at first when they are cold, because fuel will condense on the inside of the intake manifold. You should always assume it take a while to warm up. It takes 30 seconds for everything to get fully oiled anyway. But a smaller sparkplug gap will improve cold performance, at the sacrifice of mileage.

Ford Escort (1993) (EFi engine) starts, then stalls.

The fuel pump in the petrol tank has a sock that acts as a coarse filter. This sock gets clogged with muck causing the car to starve of fuel intermittently and lead to the stalling as you've described. If you pour in some injector cleaner (contains detergents) or methylated spirits it may just fix the problem. Condensation (water) in the fuel creates a slimy goop that clogs filters. It worked for me and my 1992 Daihatsu Charade, and have heard that other cars with similar symptoms have been cured in the same way, usually after expensive repairs have already proved unsuccessful . A cheap solution really! Try this first. Good Luck.

Ford Escort -1998 low temperature gage

Replace the thermostat, if that does not cure the issue you have a slight head gasket leak. I am a retired Ford dealer tech and this is what I have found causes this issue.

Your coolant system aint heating up like it should. Its your thermostat. You need to change it. its broke. There are four parts to your thermostat. You need to make sure that you get all four parts out. A thermostat costs about five bucks. Its an engine temp. regulator. If its broke your engine wont warm up at all. If it seizes shut, your engine will overheat. Your thermostat is broke. I Have the exact same car that I have been repairing for the last three months.

Stalling automatic

You need to clean the throttle body and idle air bypass valve with spray carb cleaner, hold the idle high while you do this as the engine will try to stall, disconnect battery when done for 5 minutes then reconnect and drive a few days to relearn idle strategy.

Check the cold start switch and there are other possibilities. You may want to have the computer checked with a code reader. This can be done for free at most auto parts stores such as checker shucks kragen or autozone and the like.
