Hi, Does the engine turn over as normal, when you turn the key or is it totally dead? Please let me know as i'm a mechanic and will be able to assist you further. And is your car petrol or Diesel?

The reason car batteries can die if you forget to turn the lights off is it drains a significant amount of the battery's charge. You might have a sensor coming bad, and your computer might be reading the problen and thats why it wont let you start your car until you erase the codes disconecting the battery, its got sense, could be the map sensor, but i recommend to take your car to get scanned for free at advance auto parts or auto zone before you make any spends, god bless you :)
My 1992 Cummins W250 auto trans turned out to be the Computer/ECM mounted on front fender by battery tray. Mine only acted up in cold wheather. It started out with the ASD (auto shut down relay) clicking rapidly. In addition the water in fuel, wait to start and check engine light also blinked fast. In this state, the battery would not charge.
try starting car in park and in neutral.if it still wont crank check battery has at least 13 volts if possible load test battery. check battery cables make sure conecting ends are clean . check terminals on starter also IF .starter still does not turn remove starter. have starter checked at auto parts store usually at no charge.
