Question about 1986 Chrysler LeBaron

1 Answer

Over heating I need to replace my clutch fan relay switch & I cannot locate it in my car. My fan works fine if I bypass it and every thing else is good, its just the relay, the car over heated 2 times only nothing bad came of it. I refuse to have a dealer fix it,bad enough the relay is $35.00 & no dealer is going to charge me hundreds of dollars to fix what I can do my self. Can eny one help me? Wheres the electric clutch fan relay located for my 86 chrysler lebaron?

Who know how to bypass coolent fan Thanks

it's not easy but it can be done, need a relay with harness and some wire. you must tap into the fan wire(positeve 12v) and run it to the switch side of the relay tap power(12v) constant to the relay and also a switch(12v) source and a ground ok it sounds hard but hre's a diagram 29968290-87b0-4ec1-8bba-df60277f7b84.gif

The a/c compressor clutch will not engage unless I bypass the relay. There must be a switch located in the system and I need to find the location of that switch.

Make sure you have a full charge of refrigerant in the system before you troubleshoot the electrical side of it. If you have lost refrigerant to a level that is too low, the switch will not close and allow power to the compressor clutch. The first thing to check is always the refrigerant charge.

Fan which blows heat doesn't work when toggle at dash board is moved to high.

When your fan switch is placed in the high position, it feeds directly to the fan motor and bypasses the blower motor relay. If the fan is operating on speed 1-3, then you have one of two things wrong, either you have a blown fuse, or the fan selector switch is faulty on the high setting.

Its quite possible if you have electric cooling fans it could be the thermostat switch that controls at what temp the fans come on.If its a clutch fan its belt driven and there is not allot you can do but replace the fan.Start your car and let it run until it reaches operating temperature. On the electric fans they will go on and off at specified temps.A test you can do with a clutch fan is to turn the truck off.Spin the fan if it spins real free it needs to be replaced,if it feels jerky or doesn't operate consistently smooth then it would be recommend that it be changed. Also if there electric and not working there could also a bad relay which is located in the engine compartment. These relays can be tested but I recommend a service station do that since all relays are different.

You will need to go on the web and just type in the year make model and repair manual and a few sites will pop up, theres a few thing that would cause the fan to be hot wired.a bad fan relay which is the most common problem this is located on the driverside shock tower area,it has the relay and the fuse, and the coolant temp fan switch may also be bad,

Blower working on top 2 settings but no air comeing from vents

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The possible causes due to which the blower is not working normally are fuse, blower resistor or a bad blower motor. Test the voltage at the blower with a test light. Please check the motor relay switch fuse under the dashboard. Use a multi meter to measure ohms for continuity. If these are fine, bypass the blower motor relay switch to make sure blower motor is running fine. Motor relay switch is right next to radiator fan relay switch under the hood. Pull out the blower motor relay switch to see 4 female pin holes. Test the relay switch using a 12 volts power source and a multi meter to measure continuity. If fan works after jumping the pin holes, then blower motor is fine but relay switch may be faulty. You may also need to replace the blower motor resistor. If still the problem persists, then you need to replace the blower motor.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
