Question about 1998 Cadillac Eldorado
I have a 1998 Cadillac custom coach built convertible. The floor mats are consistently wet. There are no anti-freeze leaks or anything on that order. It seems like I hear at times, water moving around underneath the car. From what I understand there was extra beams welded onto the frame when the car was made into a convertible. Is this a possible problem with water accumulating inside the beams? Could it be migrating down from a bad seal in the windshield? Thanks in adnvance for any help you can give. Mileage is 53,000.
Hi, Could you tell me if the water level is dropping and need to top it up regularly (For the radiator or engine coolent) or is your water level fine and not losing any?
If you are topping up regular then it could be that your heater radiator is leaking as this would leak into the car!
If this is not the case, then it might be if you have a washer bottle for the rear window (located in the boot if you have one) this too may leak into the car.
The only other reason why water would get in your car is if it rains and you have a leak in your car ( Could be door seals or your roof isn't sealing properly)
If this also is not the case then the problem will most likely be, that at some point water has got into your car and has never dried out! The best thing to do in this case is to leave the car somewhere warm with the windows open/roof down so the car can dry out, it may take a couple of days but will help with your problem.
This will need to be attended to as soon as possible as the water will cause your carpet to mould and eventually will cause the floor to rust and worse case the floor will become weak and if the car is left damp it can also cause electrics to corrode giving you no end of problems.
Some cars have a rubber bung in the floor to allow water to be drained.
Hope this has given you a few ideas, but it is difficult from my end as i can't see the problem for myself and look for possible causes, i can only advise you with what to look for!
Let me know how you get on or if you have any questions!!
