Change water pump in 1996 Isuzu Oasis

How do you change the water pump in a 1996 Isuzu Oasis/Honda Odyssey? I can not find a Chilton book for these models locally, so if you have one and could scan me the pages, cool! If not and you have the answer to my question, I need it! Please, don't answer me by telling me to take it to a mechanic. It is a $57 part tops, and they want between $400 - 800 to fix it. Thank you!

The Isuzu has a timing pump driven water pump, so if the timing belt is due to be replaced, both jobs are normally done at the same time along with replacing the timing belt tensioner pulley. It'a an "interference" type engine that bends the valves if the belt breaks and ruins the engine. The reason the shops want $700 is because they're doing a complete timing belt replacement to get to the water pump.

Changing a water pump on a 1996 buick century

I've changed a lot of water pumps and always started the same way; I make sure I have a repair manual (Chilton/Haynes, etc) that covers the year make and model of the vehicle I'm messing with. The manuals cover most applications as to the motor etc and give clear explanation and pics to help. Yes most of my answers on FIXYA refer people to parts store etc to get one of these books. But most people can do repairs themselves with one of these books. At the very least you can educate yourself against unscrupulous mechanics and garages. As to your vehicle, this water pump change can be easy or more difficult. It depends on the size of the engine, and any accessories (A/A etc) that tend to get in the way. You may not even need a new water pump.

1996 Honda Odyssey overheating and has engine warning light.

Did you change out the thermostat? I would also change out top and bottom radiator hoses if they feel soft. They should have firm sides.

How do I replace the timing belt on a 2007 Odyssey?

it is quite tough job for beginner but if you properly marked the position of the top dead centre, position of the pulley etc, it should be ok. remember any slight movement of the pulley will cause the engine to run erractically or cannot start at all.

Yes it is recommended to change the water pump, pully etc. as you mentioned

I have a 2007 Honda Oddysey and need to change brake pads. What size wrenches and do I need to take the calliper off the van? Any other helpful hints .... First time to change on Honda and want to be...

The best thing for a do-it-yourselfer is buy a Chilton book for your van. It costs about $20 st the auto-parts store. It will show you step by step on how to do it correctly without damaging the brake caliper. Plus, it has info on everything you need to do other repairs.

How to change the water pump belt for the 2004 honda civic and the 2005 toyota matrix.

The water pump's on both of those cars are driven by the timing belts. You shouldnt have to change the timing belt for at least 60,000 miles, although different manufacturers specify what mileage they want the belts changed at. Changing those belts can be complicated, and it's a considerable amount of work to even access them. My honest advise is, if you've never done a timing belt before, either take it to a good shop, or buy a good timing belt book, Chilton has one that is excellent, and make sure you have the tools you need and a lot of patience.
