My 2001 hyundai sonata

My car has trouble changing gears when i go about 40mph it starts acting up. I push the gas and it hesitates in changing gears.
also when i put it in reverse it jumps and makes a clanking noise.
My engine light is on and when i had a mechanic hooked it up to the code machine (dont know what its called :) ) it said its the shift sylinoid B&D, where &what is that, or what kind of problem do you think im dealing with?

I have a 1997 Hynudai Sonota and my car wont go in reverse and when i put it into to drive it will get to about 35 mph and rev to 4 rpms and jump like you said yours does. i had diagnostics ran on it and it said i need a Shift Solenoid A. I hope that this is the problem. Did you fix yours?

We had this same problem it'd seem to jump or shift hard into 3 gear. We took it into the shop and they told us it was a shift or speed sensor and there are two of them A and B. Only one went out in this case and they said that usually when one goes the other one goes within a few weeks. We had them only replace the bad one. (2 years later it appears it's happening again. So maybe the other one went out.)

Gear ratio problem is due to either an internal clutch failure or an incorrect gear ratio calculation due to faulty input or output speed sensor signals. It is possible that you had speed sensor problem to begin with, or the transmission was failing to begin with, which if this were the case, you can't just install new clutches and call it fixed. This is considered overhaul time. It's also possible that a stuck shift solenoid caused the gear ratio error because the transmission was unable to complete the shift into the gear the PCM expected. There should have been some indication that the transmission was failing (assuming it was) before just arbitrarily replacing shift solenoids.
The second gear only condition is the transmission in limp mode because of the gear ratio error it detected. The 'two humps' you describe sounds like a slipping issue or incomplete gear engagement.

Why won't my 2001 hyundai sonata go over 40mph

run the fault codes as it may be in limp mode. Check for cat converter failure blocking the exhaust. check for blocked fuel filter restricting the amount of fuel available to the injectors.

1993 hyundai sonata has check engine light on and is stuck in limp mode and wont shift out of second gear

the .pcm puts it in limp mode and it will stay in mode until light is turned off. You need to get the trouble code, repair it, erase the codes (with a scanner that retrieves the codes), and then you will be out of limp home mode.
