HI!!
HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUEL TANK REMOVAL, I BELIEVE THE TRICK IS TO LIFT THE VEHICLE AND SIT IN JACK STANDS IN ORDER TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE FUEL LINES.
GOOD LUCK!! DON'T FORGET TO RATE THIS POST!!
WARNING
Wear safety glasses and do not use a drop light. Liquid falling on the hot glass can cause the bulb to explode. If it is accidentally dropped or has a bad switch or loose connections, it can cause a fire.Work in a well-ventilated area, with no possible source of ignition, such as running cars or electrical equipment.

  • Before removing the tank, remove the battery ground cable to avoid an accidental spark.
  • Relieve the fuel system pressure, and drain the fuel tank.
    • Gasoline weighs about 7 pounds per gallon. A full tank could easily weigh in excess of 100 pounds. Attempting to remove it while it is full could result in a dangerous gasoline spill or an injury. Remember, gasoline vapor is extremely flammable.
  • Raise the vehicle on a hoist, or lift the vehicle with a floor jack and then lower the chassis onto jack stands.
  • Use compressed air to blow dirt from the fuel line fittings and wiring connectors.
  • Remove the fuel tank wiring harness connector from the body harness connector.
  • Remove the ground wire retaining screw from the chassis if there is one.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel tank. If these lines have quick-disconnect fittings, follow the manufacturer's recommended removal procedure in the service manual. Some quick-disconnect fittings are hand releasable, and others require the use of a special tool.

Some quick-connect fittings require the use of a special tool to separate them.
  • Wipe the filler pipe and vent pipe hose connections with a shop towel, and then disconnect the hoses from the filler pipe and vent pipe to the fuel tank.
  • Unfasten the filler from the tank. If it is a rigid one-piece tube, remove the screws around the outside of the filler neck near the filler cap. If it is a three-piece unit, remove the neoprene hoses after the clamp has been loosened.

WHERE IS THE FUEL FILTER ON 2000 PONTIAC GRAND AM SE

It is located in the rear of the car, near the top of the fuel tank towards the front of the car between the rear axle and gas tank. Make sure you get the Special GM ac/fuel line disconnect tool to remove it.

Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

How to change a fuel pump yourself tip?

The fuel supply and return lines are probably in bad shape, I'd recommend replacing them with the neoprene fuel line replacements, with the quick disconnect, first replace your fuel filter( it's located on the drivers side rear near the rear wheel looks like a canister in the line) again the quick disconnect lines can be used here, it will make your life easier later, these are available at most autopart stores along with the union pieces to run new lines, you can buy the quick disconnects for about $20.00 for 18 inches of new line with the quick disconnect clip on one end and the union pieces to put the line back together. Make sure the fuel tank is near empty, unhook fuel lines from the tank loosen the straps enouph so you can reach up and unplug the sending unit, now carefully loosen the straps( be careful with the straps they can be reused) until you can work the tank out, remember you need to be careful of the fill tube, if you damage it you will need to wrap it in rubber hose more unecessary work if you are careful. BEFORE YOU DROP THE TANK CHECK THE FUSEABLE LINKS, they are only a couple bucks, ALSO REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER 1ST. these items are cheap and could be the cause of your problem, the fuel pump runs about $100 but the work involved is dirty and not fun. Before proforming any repairs like this on your own make sure the vehicle is safely secured on jack stands, the rear has to be up quite a bit to give you room to work under the car. The fuel lines can be very time consuming, but will save you time when you are putting the tank back in after replacing the pump, and heaches down the road.

Fuel pump 1997 kia sephia

The back seat should come out easily, and you can look. I have had two cars with fuel pumps gone bad, a camaro and a Honda. Neither had an access panel, and dropping the tank is a major pain as has several lines going to it plus electrical wires. W/ Camaro, also need to remove rear axle first. What I did was look where the fuel lines go to t he top of the tank, and using a drill, drill a series of closely spaced holes directly above the fuel pump. After holes are drilled, can "connect the dots" w/ a sharp cold chisel and hammer, and make your own access panel, and remove pump from inside car. Reinstall panel and seal with silicone or duct tape. Worked great for me.

Gas tank leak

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Always ground yourself to the vehicle's chassis to prevent sparks while working on or around the fuel tank.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the access panel under the rear seat or in the luggage compartment.
  3. Disconnect the gauge sending unit wiring and hoses.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Drain the fuel tank into an approved container.
  6. On Cabriolet models, remove the right rear inner fender and disconnect the breather hose from the filler. Remove, but do not disconnect the gravity valve.
  7. Detach the fuel pump bracket from the body.
  8. Lower the pump enough to disconnect the fuel hoses from the tank.
  9. On Cabriolet models, the rear axle must be dropped out of the way as follows:
    1. Disconnect the brake hydraulic hoses at both sides of the rear axle.
    2. Detach the rear axle from the body on both sides and let it hang on the parking brake cables.
  10. Unhook the muffler supports and pull the large hose from the filler neck.
  11. Support the tank, loosen the straps and carefully lower the tank out of the vehicle.
To install:
  1. If a new tank is being installed, glue new foam strips to the tank in the same location as the old ones.
  2. Position the tank and secure it with the straps.
  3. Connect the wiring and hoses to the sending unit.
  4. Attach the fuel pump bracket to the body.
  5. On Cabriolet models, install the rear axle, connect the hydraulic lines and bleed the brakes.
  6. Install the access panel once all electrical connections have been made.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Fill the tank with fuel and check for leaks.
