Go to allData.com and pull up a manual on this or go to the puiblic library bring some change and photo copy the page from the Chilton Manual on the installation and routing of the belts listed for your particular vehicle/engine size/ power steering....air conditioning.... etc.
Auto Zone Parts Store may even have a print out for you when you purchase the belt replacements from them, they also loan out the needed tools for the job at hand which is pretty cool, usually the tensioner is loosened by means of a long handles wrench able to give maximum leverage on the tensioning device, some vehicles have an illustration under the hood of how the belts are routed, it is not too bad of a job just make sure you take a pic of the serpentine belt and how it is installed on your engine before you take it apart.
Hope this helps!!!

Hi.

Check this thread, this is the old Taurus.

I also uploaded service pages with routing for Taurus here, unfortunately i do not have Taurus X at hand.

It should work more or less in the same way with your 3.5L 6 cyl engine. Routing will be slightly different, take a snapshot of belt routing before removal.

To remove the pulley use a 15mm socket or wrench on the bolt holding the tensioner pulley.
Depending on engine:
turn the drive belt tensioner clockwise to relieve belt tension and then take the belt off the pulleys.
or:
Turn the tensioner counterclockwise to relieve tension, then take off the belt.r
Turn belt tensioner and remove the belt from around one of the pulleys once tension is released.

there is a special tool to do the job. The replacement can be done without using Ford tool.

The belt has most likely moved either in or out on the bottom pulley. Check it first. I had the same problem it looked ok but was out one groove missleading designed pulley.

How to put serpentine belt on a 2004 taurus. instruction & diagram

The 8th digit of your car's VIN (vehicle identification number) tells you the engine
type for your car - your choices for Ford Taurus are U (3.0L), and S (3.0L).
I've included the Ford SHO engine too.

Water Pump belt for Ford 3.4L SHO engine

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  1. Attach a 15mm socket or wrench to the bolt attaching the tensioner pulley.
  2. On all 3.0L (OHV) engines, rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to relieve belt tension and slide the belt off the pulleys.
  3. On 3.0L (DOHC) engines, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to relieve belt tension and slide the belt off the pulleys.

To install:
  1. Install the drive belt on all the pulleys except the tensioner pulley.
  2. Rotate the belt tensioner as outlined in the removal procedure to relieve belt tension and install the belt onto the tensioner pulley. Make sure the V-grooves make proper contact with the pulleys. Make sure the spring keeper releases or improper belt tension will occur.
Tip: you may want to get (free) a serpentine belt installation tool kit to help with this job.
Both Advance Auto Parts and AutoZone wisely have loan-a-tool programs that permit you
to borrow (for a deposit) their serpentine belt installation kits - which allow their
handy customers to use their auto parts rather than towing it to a garage.

How do i route the belt on a 1992 ford taurus?

If you don't have a diagram under the hood and the autoparts stores are closed,,(they can print one out for you. They will ask if you have the OHV or 24valve engine.) Just look at your pulleys and notice you have grooved and smooth ones. Hence the ribbed side of the belt goes against the grooves and the smooth side,,,, you got it. Start with the crankshaft and water pump, then work to the a/c, power steering, and finally the Alternator and tensioner.Take your time and work the belt slowly. Try not to kink the belt as you work it along. Eventually you can put a belt on anything.

Power steering pulses only when turning

There are several thing to check. Check the fluid level, with engine off, check how tight the belt is, and also look at the belt surface that is grooved. see if the are a lot of weather cracks. You may need a belt tensioner or belt or both.

Finally your PS pump may be weak. Try doing a flush on the system. If your tensioner is good, belt is good, then always try a flush before you condemn the pump and rack.

Hope this helps, it is the best I can do with the information available.
