Turn engine on let it reach operating temp. Walk to muffler opening (the other end of the car), smell the smoke comming out of car, if it smells like antifreeze you have got a blown head gasket. IF NOT continue. check the engine right around where the pullies are make absolutelly sure engine is NOT running. If there is an oily watery film your water pump weep hole is leaking (replace pump). IF NOT continue With engine at operating temp (preferably after a short trip) check hoses you may have a pin hole. I am not a mechanic but stayed at the Hilton once. Good luck

You need to have your coolant system pressure tested. This will tell you wether it is leaking into the cylinders or the exhaust chamber. Use the finger test on the exhaust pipe. If it has a strong pungent odor like preston antifeeze then it's a head gasket problem. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Why coolant level in refill tank drops with no apparent leak?

Hi Ayaz
if there no leak detected that means the radiator cap is not holding the pressure, that cause the coolant to travel to the expansion tank and flood out, then when engine cool down, it will suck the coolant back to the radiator and leave the refill tank empty.
Replace the Radiator Cap

Good luck

One of the coolant hoses or plastic coolant pipe is leaking coolant. You need it repaired and refilled with coolant.

Antifreeze on driveway. How do I find leak? How do I refill?

to find coolant leak the coolant system needs to be under pressure.remove radiator cap ,located on top of radiator.caution engine must be cool.refill with 1/2 antifreeze ,1/2 water solution only..put radiator cap back on and let engine warm for 5 minutes.turn off engine and inspect where coolant is leaking. you can purchase a telescopic mirror at the parts store to look into places that are hard to locate leak.warm engine should provide enough pressure to locate the problem

Saab 9-3 Aero convertible 2006 model coming up with message "Coolant level low please refill" Which coolant do I need to buy and the price and can I do it my self? How do I locate the correct...

Most probably is a leak somewhere, the sensor in the reservoir picks up when the level is low as to prevent engine damage. I would get it checked out. when repairing the water leak they should automaticly replace the coolant so i would just top it up with normal tap water till then. be carefull the water can burn you, so only open the bottle once the car is cold.

When I turn on the AC warm air blows through and never changes unless it's cold outside. Do I need to fiil or replace something?

Most probably just needs to have the AC serviced and refilled with coolant. Since the car is a '95. I had to bring in my to get the coolant refilled just a few weeks back and it is a 2004. We used to just call it a freon refill, but they don't use normal freon anymore, they use a coolant/refrigerant that is safer for the environment, but this doesn't matter for you. Just bring it in to your mechanic or to your dealer and have the AC serviced.

They should probably put in a dye as well to see if there is a coolant leak, If so, it is usually a very slow leak and repairing the whole AC unit wouldn't be worth it. Either way, it needs a fill.

Good luck!

How come my coolant always decreasing and where is the leak

You need to take your car to a repair shop where they can do a coolant pressure test to know where the leak is at, could be as small as a radiator cap not sealing good.

Water leaking coolant and overheating

you might need to get a new cap, or you probably have a bad coolant/water ratio. i would recommend getting a coolant system flush

2001 grand cherokee - brand new radiator starts smoking every week - must refill coolant every week but no leaks anywhere. Help!

There is a leak. the coolant is going somewhare. where does it smoke from? thats where to start looking. if it smokes out the tail pipe, it could be coolant and may need a head gasket or head? A shop can tell you if theres a head gasket problem.
