Question about 2004 Ford F150

1 Answer

I have had to replace 4 of the cylinder coils in the past year, I think they are shorting out, but I cannot see where the water is getting in. Any ideas? ( 5.4 engine)

Sometimes water can splash up going through puddles in the roadway but you may want to check for a coolant leak dripping on the intake manifold and seeping into the plug wells. Sometimes these coils just go out one after another, you replace one and it runs another off. If this is a 3v f150 they are very bad about plugs causing misfires at higher mileages

I went to autozone and they did a diagnostic test. i got a code p0304 cylinder 4 misfire. what does anyone suggest ?

Dear Earl,
You have not supplied me with the year, make, or model of the vehicle, but for the past (about 20) years, the most common answer to your problem in the USA would be a bad "coil pack".
This is usually a tall skinny plastic thing that makes the spark for the spark plug, and has a wire connection on the bottom to energize it.
The top of it has either a hole for the spark plug wire, or a wire that goes to the spark plug.
The number of coil packs are according to the number of cylinders/spark plugs in the engine. ( Usually 4 or 6.)
God bless your efforts.

How to fix a code P0304

The P0304 code means that the cylinder 4 is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks an if no leaks are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs on cylinder 4. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem, see "Possible Causes"

- Faulty spark plug 4
- Clogged or faulty fuel injector 4
- Faulty ignition coil 4
- Fuel injector 4 harness is open or shorted
- Fuel injector 4 circuit poor electrical connection
- Ignition coil 4 harness is open or shorted
- Ignition coil 4 circuit poor electrical connection
- Insufficient cylinder 4 compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Intake air leak
most likely change your spark plugs these should be done every 60,000 km

2003 Pontiac Vibe - 4 Cyl. 150k miles. Ignition coils keep going bad - every 4-6k miles. Coil 1 has been replaced 4 times, Coil 3 once. Coil 4 twice in the past year (20k miles). All spark plugs

Install new spark plugs, 4 new coils & replace the oxygen sensors

O2 Sensors are only good for 100,000 miles, then slow
down or quite

No idea why the coils do not last 5 or 6 years

Cylinder #1 is always at the front on a 4 cyl

Go to Rock Auto --Buy Wells Coils,NGK Double
Platinum Plugs & NTK O2 Sensor

Those parts are expensive because you have a Totota
Motor I guess

Clean MAF Sensor with CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner

Code po304 car wont start

cylinder 4 misfire ,now if this is a GM product then i think you may need a reconditioned ECU init as if this is the 4 cyl engine and its same as the opel astra and zafiro and the vectra then its a common fault with a 2000 to 2004/5 model the computer is bolted to the engine inlet manifold and very weak and susceptable

I have a 2008 dodge avenger se and my engine light is on and was flashing before. when it is in drive or park it turns off when i stop. i took it to auto zone and the told me that cylinder 3 and 4 misfire...

The best way to fault find in swap coil 1&2 with coil 3&4. If the fault doesn't change, it is possibly the plugs or something more sinister electrically.

How do i change number 4 coil pack diagnostics shows it needs replaced

Are you getting a P0304 code? Coils are a fairly common failure item on the 3.9 motors. The #4 cylinder is the passenger rear cylinder. You'll have to remove the air intake off the throttle body and the plastic coil cover which is held on by i think 6 screws. Next disconnect the electrical connector from the coil and remove the 7mm headed screw securing it. You may find water underneath the coil cover. If so, I suggest replacing the cover. They are about $20 or so at the dealer.

Cylinder 4 misfire on a 2000 crown victoria interceptor

first cylinder 4 is the last on the passenger side . first pull the coil out and check if there is water where the plug is. if there is take the water out and dry up the coil. if you find water you got a crack manifold or a bad intake manifold gasket. if there is no water replace the coil. good luck
