yes. Ihave all of the needed hardware but the wiring comes into the hatchback. Ineed a connection at the hitch.

  • francis_e_mc Sep 17, 2010

I don't think you are realizing that that wiring is in the hatch nowhere near the hitch area. There is no wiring in the region around the hitch. Take a look at the hatchback model. Ineed to know( where) the existing wiring is in this car. Roof, underneath,? The wiring comes out of the car body at the top of the hatch opening and goes into the hatch at the top. How do I get the harness wiring all the way down to the hitch area.I have no problem with the actual coonection once I find it.

  • francis_e_mc Sep 17, 2010

you obviously don't get it. The hatch opens and goes six feet in the air the lights are in the hatch. go look at the drawings!

  • francis_e_mc Sep 17, 2010

I will try to make this as clear possible. Ihave a trailer hitch on a 2007 ford focus hatchback. I need tomake the wiring connection. the rear lights are in the hatch the hatch raises and lowers. How do I find a spot that I can attach my trailer harness that is in a area near the hitch. the other techs I have spoken with do not seem to picture that thwiring is in the hatch that opens and closes.

  • francis_e_mc Sep 17, 2010

I have no problem with the actual wiring! The is no wiring to connect to in the hitch area. The wiring is in the hatch on this model, isolated from the hitch area. please look at the model and see that. How in the world do I get the harness from the hitch area to the place where the actual wiring is at in the hatch? The wiring comes out of roof into the top of the hatch for the rear lights.

I will try this and then comment.

Hello! I understand that the wiring is in the hatch...Gain access to the interior of the hatch...Make a harness extension with a male plug on the end and feed it under the carpet, and up through the body panel into the hatch...Connect to appropriate wires...The harness needs enough slack to move freely when hatch is opened/closed..All you are doing is extending the hatch wiring to meet up with the trailer hitch location....Right turn/stop=Orange...Right tail=Blue/Red...Left turn/stop=Blue...Left tail=Orange/White...license plate=Orange/Black...Saailer

If the harness is the T connectors then it will be easy. Just disconnect the connectors of the tail light and insert the T connectors on the cars tail light connectors. This should do it.

Yes for the tail lights are on the rear pillars. You wil need to remove the plastics that covers the connectors. These are snap ons and you can remove the plastic coverings carefully to gain access to the connectors.

I am installing an electric trailer brake controller on my 2008 Ford F- 150 STX pick up truck and I need to know where it plugs in under the dash

Ford's factory supplied brake controller harness end can be found loosely stuffed under the dash, usually just above the driver's right leg. A Ford harness has a rectangular shaped connector.
Simply connect the brake controller harness connector into the vehicle connector. Zip tie the harness wires to another harness to prevent the wiring from hanging down near your feet.
I hope this helps.

How do i install a wiring harness for a trailer on a 2002 ford focus wagon?

  • Loosen and pull back the carpeting in the back of the trunk behind the taillights.
  • Step 2 Remove the plastic wingnuts that secure the taillight to the vehicle's body.
  • Step 3 Separate the taillights from the vehicle's body, but do not disconnect the wiring.
    Installing the Connector
  • Step 1 Examine the wiring harness on each taillight. There will be a plastic connector on each side that must be separated to insert the wiring harness connector.
  • Step 2 Thread the trailer wiring connectors through holes in the body behind each taillight. Follow the instructions provided with the connector to determine which connector belongs in which side of the vehicle.
  • Step 3 Insert the wiring connectors into the vehicle's wiring harness.
    Reinstalling the Taillights
  • Step 1 Push the taillights into position against the body and reinstall the plastic wingnuts that secure them. Be careful not to crush the wiring.
  • Step 2 Route the trailer wiring underneath the carpeting in the trunk, so that the trailer connector can extend out between the trunk lid and bumper when in use, and be tucked into the trunk when not in use.
  • Step 3 Reposition the trunk carpet over the taillight housing.

How do I get at the wiring to tie in a trailer

All the wiring you need is there in the trunk, and the harness plug you buy will have quick connectors to splice each lead.
So all you have to do is to run the wires out of the trunk.
You can drill a hole, but most people just loosen the bottom of a light lense, and stick it throught there.
The rubber usually is flexible enough to allow this.
But don't do it at the top, because then water could get in.

Were do you hook up the two wires under the hood for trailer brakes on a 2000 silverado

Sometime around 2000, GM started putting trailering pre-wire harnesses in the vehicle. Your truck may have this harness built in and would greatly simplify brake controller installation. Look under the glovebox and see if there is a wire harness tied off. There will be four wires in this harness, which should be run over to the steering column to use it. Most trailer brake controllers are compatible with this harness.
The four wires in the harness are: Red, 12vdc; black, ground; blue or purple, brake pedal; and brown or white, trailer brake wire to seven pin, four pin, or five pin connector at trailer hitch, if your truck came from the factory with a trailer hitch.
If you are adding the hitch and do not have the four wire harness, the under hood wires from your brake controller are Red, connect to one of the studs under the distribution box cover (the distribution box is on the driver's side against the firewall. Underneath the cover are two large threaded studs which are hot from the battery all the time); and the other wire from your brake controller would have to be run the length of the truck along the frame, tied off in several places, to the trailer hitch connector on the bumper. Follow the directions that came with trailer hitch wiring connector to connect this wire to the proper pin in the connector.
If this has helped you, great, and please remember to vote/comment.
    Good luck!

I am looking for the wire under the rear of my 99 explorer to hook up the wiring harness for trailer or boat. HELP

From the factory there is an unused plug in the left brake light harness. You can get a tow light cable from Ford that's JUST for that, and its a 4 flat plug on the end. I 'found' mine in the compartment on the left where the jack is. Just peek in there with a light. It was still in the package. Otherwise call Ford, the thing plugs in and you route it down and there's a bracket to hold part of it under the bumper to an existing screw location.
    -Cheers.
