Question about Nissan Pickup

1 Answer

After the truck sits overnight or for a few hours of not driving it, when i start it, it sounds like all the lifters are bad/ticking/clattering, and then after about 3-5 seconds, it stops completely making the noise. do these trucks have adjustable lifters or are they hydraulic? mine is a '95 nissan hardbody xe with the 4 cylinder engine. 4x4 if that matters.

Oil will collect condensation if left sitting for a few days and even more if sitting for longer periods. Engines are meant to run and not to sit doing nothing. Moister will collect on the upper part of the engine componets easier were oil does not stay. Run to engine for at least 15 minutes per day or until the temp range is at the normal setting. After a week or so the ticking noise maybe gone hopefully. If not a weak lifter is most likely the problem

My 2007 Chevy Impala SS after sitting overnight has a ticking noise in the engine but will go away after driving it. It has 33000 miles on it.

Sounds like lifters are draining down over night. Common reason would be too thin of viscosity oil. Sometimes synthetics do this and they say it's normal. Try changing to a heavier weight oil.

Unless you have changed the valve train in some way there is no adjustment. Just tighten the rocker arm bolts to 18 Ft.Lbs. Make sure the aluminum square piece fits down in the slot in the head. If try to start the engine right away, with used lifters, it probably won't start. The lifters have to bleed down to allow the valves to close all the way. Leave it sit for a half hour or so. With new lifters, it should start right up, assuming you have everything else right but, the lifters will clatter for a bit until the oil pressure is up.

Load ticking at start up and continues for a while on my 04 F150

If the ticking sound sounds like it is coming from the top of the engine them most likely one of the lifters is bleeding off while it is sitting. If the ticking goes away after a few minutes of operation then the lifter has pumped its self back up and is operating properly. There is not any damage you can do to the engine by not replacing the lifter at this point, just the annoying ticking sound when first starting. If at some point the ticking continues after running for a few minutes the lifter has malfunctioned and should be replaced. Just remember, if you replace one lifter you should replace all of them.

My Crossfire clatters upon start up. Once the

I also own a '04 Crossfire and the clatter upon start up is very common. Although I believe it is the lifters, I've been told that the Mercedes fuel injectors are the main culprit to the ticking. But like you I have been agitated by this since buying the car. Recently mine went from just a ticking to a definite top end knocking and am being told today by the dealer that it is the lifters sticking. Don't know if a valve job and lifters will resolve the initial ticking, but I have my fingers crosses considering the $1018.00 price quote.

The sound you are hearing is an exhaust leak. Sounds like a ticking noise, goes away when driving, but can be heard when sitting. You probably have a bad manifold gasket, or loose clamp or broken weld on exhaust. Best way to tell is start it up and listen as to find leak. Or take to a muffler shop and have them repair it.

if noise is higher pitched and coming in on valve time...(2wice for every revolution of motor..ie: faster)...then upper end pressure is down due to sludge, wear , lifter failure, valvespring failure, rocker stud lifting out of cylinder head (kinda common) cam bearings failing (very rare)..oil pump bypass stuck open..and a few other possibilities... respond and we will go over lower end sound (deeper ,slower) and see what identifies your issues .... miles

bad lifters or at wort push rods wearing out try putting 10 40 oil instead of 10 30 since it has high mileage if that does not fix it it is either the rods or the lifters simplest thing firt have lifters checked out it may be a loose lifter
