The brake sensor may be to sense moisture in the brake fluid
it may need the fluid flushing through the system

If it is near the tire it is brake fluid. The brake fluid reservoir is back by the firewall driver side of engine compartment. Your car uses DOT 4 brake fluid.

I have an 2004 Audi A4, I need to add brake fluid, I opened the filler cap poured some brake fluid in but it's not going into the reservoir, is there something else that needs to be removed?

there is a very fine mesh filter on top, so you have to add fluid very slowly to let it flow through the filter screen. Do not remove the filter screen, as any contaminants could cause $$$ damage.

Raise the hood.....find the brake fluid resevoir ( usually up by the windshield/firewall area...drivers side) It will look like a clear or opaque colored plastic oblong container...not much larger than a soap dish, only deeper. Find the "full mark" on the side of vessel, and make sure brake fluid level is at the mark. You can find DOT3 brake fluid in convenience stores, gas stations and even grocery stores. Dont overfill...

Same car Audi Brakes

From my experience, the only requirement is that the fluid is at least DOT 4 rated. There isn't any proprietary brake fluid that I've ever come across.
