Sounds like it needs some TLC ,i would suspect something like a head gasket but i would ask a local mechanic to have a look for you as it could just be a sensor

I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.9L V8 it dies randomly while driving it don't do it everyday and conditions vary it won't restart unless you turn key all the way off and wait for 30 sec or so

Connect fuel pressure gauge such that you can (or better, helper can) see it while driving. Check for pressure drop as engine dies. If yes, pump or relay (or both) need replacement. Could also be electrical issue in ignition switch, relay, crank/cam sensor. Intermittent issues are hardest to find, but don't worry, it will get worse, lol.

with no bus, that is power to or from the pcm. try wiggling the 3 plugs at the pcm with the key on. if you see lights change, or hear the bing, that would most likely be the pcm.

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram w/113,000 miles on it. Have started getting a "no bus" or "no bu 5"code on my odometer - plus my gauges have stopped working. Any clue?

The problem is related to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and "No Bus 5" means that the PCM is not communicating with a certain module, and it can cause the gauges and the warning lights to all malfunction and act erratic, and also cause a loss of engine performance.

It is also very possible that an after-market stereo could interfere with the operation of the PCM or any of the other control modules because those dodge systems are easily disrupted by electro-magnetic or radio frequency interference especially if it is right there next to them, and it has happened before. Also, the passenger side air-bag switch can get a fault in it that really wreaks havoc with the PCM and a dealership could tell you if the passenger side air-bag switch is faulty or not.

Try this,

Follow in Order

1. Dis-connect the battery.

2. Dis-connect the wiring connector on the PCM.

3. Re-connect the wiring connector to the PCM.

4. Re-connect the battery.

Start the vehicle and check to see if the gauges and the warning lights are acting normal again, and if they are then there is a problem with the PCM and it is most likely becoming faulty and will soon fail.

First check is a look in the fuse box for a blown or loose fuse and also push all relays into their sockets. The check engine light shows that a trouble code is registered in the computer. Rent a scanner, read out any code(s), and pursue to repairs.

Could be a bad cluster. If one is cable driven, and the other electric. You could have a bad speed sensor in the transmission which will make the speedo not work.

2001 dodge ram shuts off intermittently, restart ok no mil.

You are experiencing what is called a CCD Bus short in the instrument cluster circuit board. (chrysler calls it the "chrysler collision detection buss) it is how all of the controllers and modules communicate on that vehicle. Get a new one and you should have no problems, and used ones are a HUGE gamble. Other vehicles that are extremely bad for this are, caravans, neons, sebring coupe/conv, strates, and cirrus. It will also cause a no start condition that is EXTREMELY hard to catch.
