Lots of things make noise but the front sprag has a bullitin on it and it's covered under the 7=70 powertrain warrentee. The whole trans really needs replaced as the medel goes though everthing and the rebuilt units are reworked with the updated sprag and the old unit won't take the new sprag ( IT'S BIGGER). Sorry but this is an expensive repair the dealers are doing alot of them.

Hi, You have a bad CLUTCH plate that needs to be replaced.
Or a bad tork converter. In any case you have to take the tranny out to inspect.

1990 MUSTANG 5.0 AUTO TRANS, MAKES GRINDING TYPE OF NOISE IN EITHER REVERSE OR ANY FORWARD GEAR. THE CAR BEARLY MOVES. THE NOISE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM TORQUE CONVERTER AREA/FRONT OF TRANS. I'M...

Sounds like it's the stator in the converter. Best thing is to get overhualed if you intend to keep the car for a while longer. If not wrecking yard is your cheapest solution. Just flush your cooling system and change the filter in trans since it's out.

Tork converter and transmission change need to know if there is only one way to put it on

Rotate the converter while putting it onto the stator/input shaft of the transmission. Make sure it goes on all the way. Note the converter hub - it will either have a couple of notches cut into the end of the hub or a couple of flats, either case - these engage the pump gear. If not fully engaged then you WILL break the pump when bolting up the transmission. Once it is in place, install the transmission, but as you install it, make sure the converter rotates freely and does not slide out of engagement with the pump (if the trans is tilted forward). When the transmission is completely bolted up you can then slide the converter forward slightly against the flexplate to bolt up (or converter studs through flexplate holes for nuts). Pay careful attention to what you're doing and you'll be OK - if not then be prepared to replace a broken pump!

I have a 1986 pontiac parisienne and the transmisiion acts ups ONLY once the motor gets hot, when I come to a stop the car kinda jerks and stutters and if i stio real suddenly it kills the motor what is...

soulds like you have a tork converter thats locking up..you can unhook the wires to the tork converter...this is stop it from locking in...the trans will still shift...it just wont have the lockup converter working..its supposed to save fuel...but i had one i drove for many years with it unhooked and didnt make any difference

Transmision instalation

Did you make sure the torque converter was properly seated on the input shaft of the transmission. In oder to do this you need to spin the torque converter and push it into the transmission so as to spline the torque converter into the input shaft of the transmission. Be patient and keep spinning and pushing and it will spline up.

Transmission completely quit working with no noise. Reverse worked for 10 min and the quite as well.

It sounds like you may have a sun gear failure. Before we go there check the fuse for the transmission, make sure it's still good. Good luck and keep me posted.
