Just put motor in my suv it ran fine on way home in expedition done. Pulled 4,6 installed it in my exp, now when I start it pops through intake.

If the timing isn't off and you don't have valve problems. You have an intake leak. Check the codes.

Poping sounds from top of engine while running

Without hearing the noise, popping back thru the intake often indicates incorrect spark timing or badly worn timing components. Double clack is piston pins, single tap may be valves out of adjustment, sticking, tappet noise, etc. Use a section of hose with one end in your ear to listen all over engine to find location of noise. CAUTION--beware of spinning fan blades.

Popping back cold threw intake high idle no codes

If you mean that the engine is back firing through the intake when the motor is cold, this is a valve timing problem. It be burned valve seats.

Got a popping noise at high rpm

Has it been doing it for a while ? Can you tell if it is popping thru the exhaust pipe or the intake ?
You could have a lifter that is floating, or a sticking valve.

87 buick century 2.8 has spark, and fuel, no start, backfires thru intake-not all the time, timing chain, and gears replaced, timing is correct, replaced icm, cam sensor. any suggestions?

double check the coil pack wiring to be sure they are correct-popping through the intake is usually an indication of bad mechanical timing (I know you said you checked it but that is a big possibility) or a leaking intake valve-or wires not run properly to the plugs.mikemt_18.gif

do you hear a pop pop poping under heavy acceleration or just one big back fireing when first accelerating? it could be an intake valve pop pop poping, and electrical,on the big bafireing under lite to med load. A cracked,or worn cap and rotor, weak coil wire, dirty carbruator, faulty accelerator pump in carb bad vacumn advance !slow ignition timing. BAD points and condenser if equiped on older model with carb.

Cranks over but wont start pops though intake or back fires

Your description is that of a timing issue.
Either your distributor is off or your timing belt has slipped...
Time to have the timing check/adjusted/corrected.

Cannot be another issue...that I know of

I get a misfire or backfire thru the filter or airflow meter

Back fire through the air intake is usually due to a timing issue, but could be a valve problem. See if it has jumped timing.

Engine want crank

an IC (internal combustion ) engine is dependent on the spark timing for initial start (crank).here since most of it was remanufactured , the spark timing is at fault.
TIME the spark a few degrees before TDC and see the difference .i hope this solves your problem.
