Question about 1994 Jaguar XJ12

1 Answer

1994 XJ12, 84K, I just installed a new starter and I am getting just a click and what seems to be a power draw with a hum when I turn the key in either park or neutral. starter will turn the motor if I jump the two terminals at the starter. how do I test maybe the small wire at the starter to see if its sending enough voltage? Is there possibly a bad relay somewhere? could it be a bad ground or short somewhere? thanks, rick

Startergets hot and smokes when i turn the key to start it.

The windings on the starter motor are shorted out and drawing too much power. Hence it gets very hot and smokes as it burns up some more.

You need to get a new starter motor.

94 ford escort lx. Only clicks at relay when trying to start. Replaced battery, ignition relay, neutral safety switch, ignition switch, starter tests good. Power going to starter but no power to exciter...

if you have battery power on the large terminal at the starter and the same on the smaller wire when someone Is turning the key to start and the starter has a good ground then the starter is bad drawing too much amperage causing the clicking sound.

1994 Mazda Protege wouldn't start, battery seemed dead replaced battery with a new one and still no power

Does anything work? Lights, radio? Do the warning lights and gauges turn on when key is turned to on? That would verify power is getting to the ignition switch and is being sent out.
Pretty limited in what you can check without a voltmeter or test light. If you have power to the ignition switch, need to know if power is getting to the starter solenoid on the starter motor when the key is held in cranking position. If power there, likely a new starter is called for-have yours tested.

Will it crank in neutral, and have you checked the starter to see if it has power when the key switch is in the start position ?

1994 Honda Prelude si starting problems

Your starter motor is either not getting power or in need of replacement. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with your car.

Also check your battery connections for no corrosion there as well as by the starter motor. Low voltage circuits in a car are extremely vulnerable to poor contact issues.

Just had new starter replaced yesterday on 1994 isuzu pickup truck and today it would not start. The battery seems fine but when I turn the key there is not even a clicking sound. What could this be??

I would go back over the system first and make sure the battery and starter cables are installed right, and the nuts holding them on are tight.
If that is not your problem, please let me know and I will be happy to further assist you.

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

Replacing a starter and starter relay on a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder

Starter relay is located in a "fuse box" these rearly go out. Check your starter to make sure you are getting power to it when you turn your key. if so then worry about the relay or the Starter Solenoid.
