Northstar? Look for exhaust in cooling system, espeically under pressure, the repair for this is usually cost prohibitive at 5 to 8 grand. The issue is usually pulled head bolt threads in aluminum block. Compression gasses get pushed into cooling system, and that pushes out the coolant, while driving.
I fixed mine, but MAN, what an expense.

Don't do that.
You should never let an engine overheat, you should never rapidly cool it off, and you should never put water "on" the engine.

First of all, you need to determine if there are any leaks.
If you can't see one, but the fluid goes low, then you need to run a pressure check by getting a pump and gauge at a place like Autozone. Check with engine off and on, to find head gasket leak.

If there is no coolant leak, then change the thermostat, check the water pump belt, and make sure the fan, fan relay, and fan thermoswitch all work by shunting the thermoswitch and also seeing the same results without shunting.

But it could be there is no problem.
Engines should reach over 200 degrees sometimes, and many part should steam if you throw water on them.
That is no way to tell if it is overheating.
You should probably have a gauge installed.

Hi air , My Lumina 2005 everyday low water. Plz tell me.

You obviously have a big leak, I would check the hoses and around the water pump for the leak. Lastly check the radiator. If you put a large piece of cardboard under the car it will show you where it is dripping down from.

Why do I have to put water everyday in my car like over a gallon?

That's a lot of water you are losing. Can I assume that you don't have a large puddle of water under your car? Check your oil - does it appear to be milky white? It should be golden light brown. Take a look at your exhaust pipe. Do you see any white smoke? If so, then you probably have an internal leak some where. It could be a leaking gasket or something worst. In any case, take the car to a professional mechanic for a better analysis.

Hi I need help with my 2004 Freelander TD4: suddenly blue/white smoke coming out the back of the car ( the car did not over heated the heat gauge was at normal position) notes that there was oil leaking...

cracked block. once it heats up the crack gets bigger and the oil gets thinner which makes more oil burn. run car without the oil cap on and see if lots of air/ oil comes out if so thats blow by and you need a new engine.

2006 chyrsler sebring coolant reservoir empty everyday but o leaks

If nothing is leaking externally from engine area, then I'd have my exhaust analyzed for coolant coming out the exhaust. Bad intake gasket or head gasket usually indicated by coolant out the exhaust pipe.

make sure your engine cooling fan is working, check to see if your thermostat is staying closed and not allowing circulation in your engine, do this by squeezing the radiator hose when the car is hot, if it is hard to squeeze the thermostat is most likely the issue

Car needs water re-filled everyday and in the oil it has a creamy colour substance which i have now noticed in where the oil dipstick is too

You need to change your water-pump before it gets your engine damaged. this is only a sign that the water-pump is bad wherein water misses with the oil.

Treat this fast.

rate this too.
