Question about 2006 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

I was told my 2006 camry water pump leaked. Is there any way to visually verify the pump leaks? I want to confirm myself before spending $400 for the replacement.

You could pressure check cooling system and look for your leak not certain if 06 cam engine is equipped with timing belt driven waterpump but if it is and it is leaking under pressure you should see it coming out of timing cover

Since you replaced a perfectly good water pump most likely do this, have the system pressure tested by a shop and confirm where exactly the leak is.

Hi, leaking via weep hole indicates the water pump seal is bad....pump is shot. I would consider this an urgent fix. Any coolant leak is an urgent fix......MIke

What engine size? how many miles on the vehicle?

1: Leaking Water pump - How do I notice this in the car ?

Typically you will see a lot of dried up coolant around the water pump. If the coolant level gets low enough it will cause the vehicle to over heat and potentially do a lot of damage.

Water pumps are extremely common on these years.

2. Under Steering components it says Rack is Leaking, Passenger bellow torn open.

The rack is the part that turns the wheels left and right. If a bellow is torn and there is fluid coming out of it than the seals in the rack have gone bad. Eventually enough fluid will leak out and cause the power steering to no longer work and possibly ruin the power steering pump.

3. LF Strut /stunt is seeping.

It means that the oil on the strut is starting to leak out. The strut is what absorbs the bumps in the road and holds your tires down on the road. Eventually the strut will loose its ability to do this and the tires will start to cup. It is not uncommon for struts to show signs of leaking and is usually the first indicator that the strut is starting to fail.

Hope that helped.

Power Steering fluid leaking 1997 Toyota Camry Leaks all the time Put more fluid in.

Bad lines or bad pump. if it's not a bad leak, try some stop leak additive and add fluid when needed. If it's bad, you need to replace what's leaking before your spend the repair cost in powersteering fluid. lines are relatively cheap and i would replace them before you run out of fluid and burn the pump up.

Go to your local auto parts store and rent a coolant pressure tester, it's a hand pump with a radiator cap on the end, so you simply install it instead of the radiator cap, pump it up to about 10psi and visually look for the leak, should be easy to find. If that fails you could also try a dye test, ask about it at the auto parts store for more information.

Water Pump Leaking??

yes it is a very expensive repair, they (whom ever they are) may have seen a coolant stain on the area around below the pump under the car, if it goes it can overheat and cause serious engine damage very quickly. have u been under the car to look?

Camry 1993 oil pump

No reason to toss the engine then. The oil pump drive sprocket is located behind the timing cover and he would have had to remove a lot of things to have definitively told you it was the pump leaking. Even then, you shouldn't have to replace it. It's far more likely to be a crank or cam seal that's leaking. Just the fact that he told you 1200 bucks would make me run, it's a 6.5 hour job to change the pump. I would suggest taking it somewhere else. Without knowing the service history, this is what I would do if it were my car: Since you have to remove the timing cover to get at the oil leak, I would take to a Toyota dealer and have them attack it as a timing belt job, tell them; "while you're in there, fix the oil leaks and replace the water pump". The labor for all of this is about 4.5 hours (~$450.) + parts (timing belt, water pump, seals (~$250). This gets you a whole bunch of maintenance for about 800 bucks. Now if you have had the waterpump and timing belt done already, you would be looking at 4 hrs labor and a handful of seals (~$30) to just fix the oil leaks.
Just out of curiosity, what part of the world are you in? My dollars relate to the Vancouver, Canada market.
