Question about 2002 Buick Century

02 buick will not rev up has no power have run on scanner no codes have unhooked converter changedfuel pump changed air flow meter changed tps also new computer have run into brick wall please help

    I have checked the fuel pressure and it is about 50psi and the fuel filter is new. When i try to rev the motor it gets to a certain RPM then just surges up and down and it makes some rather strange wooshing and sucking sounds. It also seems to be running quite lean, the plugs are very white.

Release tension on the serpentine belt revove belt start engine and see what happens more than once i have seen a belt driven component cause the same thing without being detectable hence a smoking belt squelling bearing noises none of these were present yet when belt was released problem was gone one was an a/c clutch hub one was alternator neither could be heard just thought you might try have also seen a mass air meter cause this without setting a code i can only assume you have covered all basics has actual fuel pressure been checked at the fuel rail there is a test port also a severely clogged fuel filter if pressure is issue generally under engine data on scanner your o2 sensor readings will be right at border line lean and quick snap of throttle does not iniate a sharp response hope this may help

It could be a problem with your Mass Air Flow Sensor. It seems like it is detecting too much air flow and injecting fuel being demanded by it. It could be malfunctioning. Also the Manifold Air Pressure sensor could contribute to the problem if there is an air leak and not enough vacuum. Not sure of an 04 Buick Rendezvous but my Buick has a small hose that runs from the intake manifold to a small relay size box on the firewall. If this is off then you could get some of these symptoms.

Could be maf or tps. Here are some test procedures:

Volume Air Flow (VAF) MeterOPERATION This component is used on 22R-E, 1FZ-FE, 3VZ-E and 3F-E engines.
This meter measures the amount of air flowing through the intake system. It is used by the ECM to calculate air/fuel mixture.
TESTING 22R-E, 1FZ-FE and 3VZ-E Engines
See Figure 1
Disconnect the wiring from the VAF meter.Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals E2 and VS. Resistance should be as follows: 3VZ-E-200-600 ohms

If the test is not within specification, replace the unit.



Throttle position sensors are usually mounted on the side of the throttle body. The sensor detects the throttle valve opening angle. The voltage of terminal VTA increases in proportion of the opening angle of the throttle valve. The ECM judges the driving conditions from the input signals of the terminals, and uses them as one of the conditions for deciding the air/fuel ratio correction, power increases and fuel cut-off control. 3VZ-E and 1FZ-FE Engines
Confirm that the throttle valve is fully closed.Connect an ohmmeter to terminals IDL and E2. E2 is the bottom terminal, while terminal IDL is positioned directly above it.
Insert a 0.020 in. (0.50mm) thick feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and lever. Check for continuity between terminals IDL and E2 of the sensor. Continuity should be present.Insert a 0.031 in. (0.80mm) thick feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and lever. Check for continuity between terminals IDL and E2 of the sensor. Continuity should not be present.

have the fault codes read as it may be a combination of faulty sensors causing the problem. The ECM fault reporrting process is there for a purpose and that is to pinpoint the fault and to save money.

There is a switch in the airflow meter that keeps the fuel pump relay closed as long as there is airflow. With the meter unplugged, the pump should not run except when the key is turned to start. It would seem to me that you have a wiring issue. Try jumping the fuel pump relay so the pump runs whenever the key is on. (Remove the relay and jump the pump wire to the accessory wire--see top left diagram.) This defeats the safety feature but will keep the pump running.

Low or no power, changed the mass air flow sensor? OBD showed a problem on left side cat converter? Runs good one day and bad the next. Problem started after hurricane. Acts like exhaust is plugged ...


If its showing a catalytic converter code,,dont keep replacing other sensors..Has nothing at all to do with the map or the mass air flow sensor...Likely its the cat is clogged..That code tells you that your cat is not doing its job..I would change that cat on that side,,and quit letting the mechanic throw parts on the car..Thats to expensive

it sounds like the mass air flow metering sensor thats in the air intake pipe ,but any more than that iam at a loss as none of these cars here in spain so i cannot tell you exactly where to look

Did you check the IAC Valve, (Idle Air Control), TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) or change the fuel filter. Any Service Engine Soon light.

I have code P0110 I changed the mass air flow meter and the ECM please help.


mass air flow meter uses the tps for referance. if tps is off it can cause a mass code to set. also check throttle body and clean if needed.also make sure mass in installed in correct position. check arrow on mass for direction and clamps are tight.

Car will not Idle


The TPS must be set with a voltage meter. What are the code numbers? Air flow meter will not let it idle too. Get a used one to save you money. Be sure you do not have the ecm number 1228253 in it also,they will make the car shut off while driving. I have one of the cars with 295,000 miles on it.

ONLY WORKS WHEN THE AIR FLOW METER IS DISCONNECTED


If you have check engine light, it could be Accelerator position sensor 1, apc 2, tps1, tps,2. If you dont have MIL could be Air flow meter. Also there is actually 3 small filters in the gdi pump not 2.
