Dodge avenger 3.5 overheating with new thermostat no heat either

I would bet the water pump is either siezed or the impeller (which is plastic) is broken. One thing you can do is let the engine run until the temp guage reads in the normal position. Feel the upper and lower hoses. If one is hot and the other is cold than there is no coolant flow. If the thermostat where the problem than there would still be heat since the water pump is still working. If there was heat before you changed the thermostat and know there is no heat than you have air in the system and it needs to be purged. You can do this by removing the radiator cap on a cold engine. Top off the coolant as necessary. Start the engine. Continue to monitor the coolant level and add as needed. Let the engine warm up until the fans come on. Replace the radiator cap and you should be good to go. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

My dodge 1998 dodge stratus its not over heating on the gauge but its boiling in the over flow container what would be the problem?

It is normal for the coolant to flow back and forth at varying temperatures. is it actually boiling over and losing coolant or just flowing in? Also checking it when it is warm and making sure it is at the full hot mark and again at full cold mark when it hasnt run-i.e. in the morning before its been run that day. if you are not actually losing coolant though you dont have a problem.

How do i put water for the radiator?

Does your car have a cap or a sealed unit? You don't want a sealed unit. You want to be able to check your water.Push down and Twist the cap off when cold, not hot, fill it up with coolant, 50/50 mix, and fill up the expansion tank. It says coolant on it. The car will balance itself out. Check the water in your battery while you are at it. It dries out too. Then check the brake fluid, power steering fluid, and oil. That should keep you busy next Saturday. Hope this helps.

I have a 97 Dodge Carvan my heater is blowing cold air and the anti-freeze is leaking and the fan is blowing steady.

if the fan is running as soon as you tuirn the key on,thats the resistor,
no heat will happen if the coolant is low and can't circulate ,you need to fill the radiator and over flow container and fix the leak.

Coolant leaks

That's probably coming out of your coolant return bottle. With rad cap off & engine cool, look at your level in the rad, if necessary top it up to an inch or so from top. Start engine, turn heater(not defrost) on and let it run until up to normal operating temperature. Keep an eye on temperature gauge & rad level. When it's at normal, watch for good flow going through rad when thermostat opens. after flow slows down,(thermostat closes) top it up if needed. If you watch 2 or 3 times for flow, and gauge doesn't go over normal, then put cap back on, then fill bottle only to mark for warm or hot engine, with coolant. If gauge goes up over normal from there, replace thermostat, and I'd get a new rad cap too. If that has electric cooling fan, make sure it comes on shortly after you see thermostat open & coolant flowing through rad.
